Prudence and Foxcatcher- what a sibset!
My six-year-old brother (who has Foxcatcher on his list of top names, as I posted about recently) just expressed to me his love for the name Prudence (he pronounces it poo-dee-ens). He was playing a game, and there was a character called Prudence, so he goes 'She's got a pretty name.' We talked about it for a bit; I asked if he would ever use it, and he said 'If I couldn't think of anything better'. I've never liked it- the meaning and the sound, well, neither really appeal to me. But he made me think about it. So, do you like Prudence at all? What combinations would you choose for it? Would you be excited to meet a young Prudence?

I do like the sound of it and I like the meaning but I wouldn't use it personally. I am a fan of word and virtue names though. I would like to see it used on a little girl, but I do have a hard time seeing it age.

I do in fact like Prudence. I immediately think of the character Prudence from the movie 'Across the Universe', and it's a very positive association.

I'm not a huge fan of Mackenzie as a fn either, but it's what popped into my head (all four names in that order), and I couldn't convince myself not to just type the whole thing out.
I like Jeanne too, but it's one of those names that I have trouble spelling and even more trouble pronouncing. :/ Jean feels harsher, but it's so simple, and there's also the Hermione Jean Granger thing which will probably always be an important point in its favour. Also, Jean Grey. It's like...a (double) fandom name without anyone having to know it's fandom. A stealth fandom name! ;)

I love Prudence. It only has two stars on my PNL and that makes me sad. "Prue" is an adorable nickname. Since you're a younger Brit, though perhaps a little too old for it, have you ever read Love Lessons by Jacqueline Wilson? I bought the book as soon as it was released (and adored it, btw) and the main character was a Prudence "Prue" who very much disliked her name, but I grew to love it as the novel progressed.
Anyway, in regards to combos, Prudence Emilia June just popped into my mind and I think it's darling.
Prudence "Prue" and Foxcatcher "Fox" would be so rad.

Oh, yes, I have read that book, actually! I used to be a massive fan of Jacqueline Wilson, though my adoration has waned. My sister still loves her writing, though. That was a great character, and I do like the nickname 'prue'. I think it's the 'prude' that ruins it for me. As for Prudence Emilia June- I love the flow, and Emilia is great. I'm more of a Jeanne person though, so I think I'd go for Prudence Emilia Jeanne.
Prue and Fox. Wow.

Yeah, I grew out of her books just before I hit secondary school, I think. They're very enjoyable, though :)
