Amanda
What are your thoughts on Amanda? I have never warmed to this name, but I don't think it's terrible. One benefit is that it's an easy name to make combos with. Willoughby wolloughby willina, an elephant sat on Billina.

I think it's rather cute. I have a cousin called Amanda. It's a pretty common name in Sweden.
I love Amandine and Mandaline.

Amanda HuggenkissIt peaked here a bit earlier: top 100 in the 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s. So Amandas are generally older, and there are a ton of them. It's okay, but I've never warmed to it much either, although it would be interesting to see out of that period.
Mandy just makes me think of that terrible cheesy ballad, I forget who by.

Barry Manilow.

Ha of course. Can't get it out of my head now! Ohh Mandyyyyyy.

There's also, "Now listen, Mandy! There's a minister handy! And it sure would be dandy if we could be wed! Now don't you linger: here's a ring for your finger..."Possibly way more annoying that the Barry Manilow song.

You know, I actually like Barry Manilow. His music is cheesy, but there is something about him that is so adorable, I can't help but like him.

Yeah, I like him too. Not the sort of thing that I really choose to listen to but I wouldn't object if someone else wanted to play his music.

He is the cheese master and his cheese is top quality. And anyone who doesn't like Copacabana at least a tiny bit has NO HEART. :)

I really like it but.....popularity. I've known several. But actually I like Miranda more and would have used that instead of Amanda.ETA: I've now read the other responses and was surprised to see a couple of negative comments about the nickname Mandy. Well, I guess I wasn't really surprised, but I don't get what's so awful about Mandy. I feel the same way when I see so many negative comments about Vicky.

I don't see what's so awful about Mandy, either. It's not my favorite nickname, but I think it's fine. Spunky, even.

I've always loved it, even back in school when I was surrounded by them. It's really a lovely old name, and I hate that its recent popularity makes it seem so dated. The "most popular girl in school, c. 1985" thing doesn't bother me all that much, but I guess it does make it better as a middle name. It does work well in a lot of combos, you're right.

I like Amanda but it's a little overused.

I wouldn't think much of it, being born in the mid 80s it's very yawny, but a few years ago I started picturing it more on a pioneer girl and I totally love it that way. But yeah, on a modern person it's nice I guess, but boring.

My pioneer g-g-g-g-grandma was an Amanda Melvina. :) It's a fun name to say.

I feel like Amanda is the Isabella/Sophia of my generation. I know OODLES of them. Oh so many. It's become boring, and I associate it with the 80s and other names like Jessica and Nicole, which I don't like. But I guess I think Amanda is more tasteful than a lot of other 80s names, like Brittany. I can see its appeal if I try really, really hard to divorce it from my associations. That said, most of the Amandas I've known have been totally great people.

I completely agree with your assessment.

I couldn't agree more. It's technically nice but so many of them.

I find it very dull. Nothing wrong with it, really, and I've known a few Amandas who were nice. In fact, I think one of the reasons I find it dull is that it was super popular (like like Stephanie, Jessica, Christina, Crystal, etc) while I was in school without any of the "sparkle" those names have.

I think it would make a very good mn. I'd avoid it as a fn because of the toe-curling awfulness of Mandy.

I always loved it. Just not Mandy, but most of the Amandas I've known were never called it, and one of the only two or three Mandys was actually Miranda.

Yes, it is, isn't it? Off the top of my head, my right-now favourite is Anna Amanda Pearl. I'm finding the rhyming oddly endearing today, though I don't know why I chose Pearl to tack on to the end. Well, I have major no issue with Amanda, and I guess it beats over-popular, and even more whiny, Amelia. It does sound a bit whiny, though, you have to admit. I like Amy, but I hate Mandy.
