Where did all the -dens's (Hayden, Brayden, Caden, etc) come from?
Now that I'm going to be a parent, I keep seeing people's children, for the first time since... I guess I was a bit younger. How did this spate of names that end with -den begin? I remember Aiden becoming popular some time ago, but I can't believe how many are named Caden, Brayden, and the # of variations in their spellings. I think there are other -den names too. Curious how this began?Jen

There's just a huge number of names ending in -en/-on/-an, the -dens are just a part of it. I think the sound became popular with Aidan/Aiden, then some parents discovered the obscure Old Testament Jadon, respelled in Jaden to get the desired pronunciation. From there it seems that names that were popular a generation ago got their beginnings tacked onto names ending in -den, like
Brandon, Brendan, Brian --> Brayden/Braden/Braydon/Braeden, etc.
Kate, Casey --> Caden/Cayden/Kadin, etc.
And Hayden as an established last name seemed to join the pack. More recently, I've seen Zayden's, Xayden's, and Rayden's... Shayden made the Top 100 for Hawaii in 2005.

Don't forget all the -lyn names!Met an Emberlin today...Ember is ok, but nms, and tacking a -lin on the end just seemed...well, tacky! “The longer I live, the more convincing proofs I see of this truth, that God governs in the affairs of men. And if a sparrow cannot fall to the ground without His notice, is it probable that an empire can rise without his aid?”
