Re: 10 most unpopular boys names 2024
in reply to a message by Canielle
I don't love the nickname Steve, but I am struck by the general feeling towards Stephen. Until I took down the option for people to vote on my list (a feature I find somewhere between annoying and creepy), Stephen was the name on my PNL that was the lowest-rated - I think it was just rated around a 1. I like the name Stephen (that spelling).
Most of these others seem fairly inoffensive, if not favorites of mine. Colin, Craig, Derek, and Roger are all fine, if dated. Philip is fine, though like Steve, I dislike the nickname Phil for it. No real feelings on Gareth or Tyrone.
Wolfgang is not a favorite, and I've never encountered Sameer.
It does feel a bit odd to suggest that any name is the "least popular" - by what metric is that measured?

According to Just Jonquil, the list appeared in the Daily Mail! In which case, it was probably invented by the telephonist to fill a page.
...makes sense. This seems to be a list of personal tastes and peccadillos versus something meaningfully tabulated (how would you even do that?).
