Karsten (spelling variant Carsten) is a Low German version of Christian. The name Christian is used in Germany as well (German pronunciation: CHRIS-tee-yahn).

The name is quite common in the north of Germany and in Denmark but not so common in the south of Germany and in Austria and Switzerland.

I named my son born in March Carsten Foster - I believe it's a Danish name.

My Brother-In-Law is named Carsten. And I'm Danish so it is also a Danish name.
