During their local Humane Society's Adopt-a-thon, Samuel and Kathy agreed that Aiden and Camilla were old enough for pets. They are both cat-lovers, and found two kittens right away. And Kathy and Samuel couldn't resist the eyes of a sweet little black Labrador-mix puppy, the last left of her litter. The kids thought it was only fitting to give the kittens names out of their current favorite Disney movie, The Lion King, so they became Simba and Nala. Camilla also came up with the name Perdita for the puppy, after the mother in 101 Dalmations. Kathy, as a Shakespeare fan, likes that it has a connection to one of her favoite of his plays, The Winter's Tale. Farah and Perdita became fast friends and everyone considers her Farah's dag. No one in the family can imagine how they got along without pets before.
