A timeless classic. I picture a woman who is somehow both young and old, taking wary, curious steps into a warm tide that is ebbing in and out, staring with wonder at the unfathomably spacious world ahead of her... teal-tinted, even-numbered and impossible to dislike.
Pronounced /əˈʃɪərə/ [noted -ed]
How beautiful. Love the etymology.
Just added to Personal Name List. ♥.
Such a gorgeous meaning.
I love the meaning of this name! I feel that it would suit anyone from a small toddler to a greying elder. Asherah flows well as a name and isn't at all overused. I do prefer the name 'Ashira' but only by one syllable. I wouldn't name my child Asherah but I would suggest it to others.
My favourite combinations for Asherah:
Iris Asherah
Asherah Thomasin
Asherah Wilmot
Ivy Asherah
Evie Asherah
Caroline Asherah.
This is such a beautiful name; I'm blown away by it. I don't know how it'd be used, though. Character? A real person? I don't know, I just want to hear it more.
This name is often taken to mean "lady of the sea" and the goddess was an ancient Semitic deity that preceded Hebrew monotheism. [noted -ed]
Israelites are monotheistic. They have ONE god. There was never a goddess.
Whoever said that the pronunciation was uh-SHAYR-a or aw-SHAYR-a, is incorrect. The correct pronunciation of this name is uh-SHEER-uh, with a long 'e' sound in the middle instead of a long 'a'.Source: http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/Asherah
Don't know if this has any significance with the name but ashera is the Arabic word for the number 10. I just thought that was interesting.
The Arabic word for 'tenth' is ashura.
Pronounced uh-SHAYR-a or aw-SHAYR-a.
I love this name! It's so pretty! I'm using this for a fan-character!
What a beautiful name! And meaning! I'd never heard it before, and I am really into Mythology! Asherah! That is beautiful!
The name Asherah meant "She who walks in the sea." It also is a goddess name so it probably is a goddess of the sea.
Another spelling is Ashera.
This is the name of a song Jews sing on Sabbath. This song is about Moses delivering the Hebrews from pharoah.
