Why on earth does it say masculine & feminine at the genders? If some girls are named James then will the gender becoming masculine and feminine?

Although this name is very common, it’s still a good name and works well with a lot of languages.

One of my absolute favorites, so beautiful. It has an eternal quality to it that defies time and trends. I always think of the song from West Side Story: ‘Maria, say it loud and there’s music playing/ say it soft and it’s almost like praying’.

Maria is such a lovely, mellifluous name with very feminine, classic, and wholesome vibes. It has been one of my favorites since I was a child. I understand why it's stood the test of time, still being globally common today - it's gorgeous yet simple, easy to spell and pronounce, and of course has religious significance to Christians because of the Virgin Mary. It's not TOO common in the U.S. (it's hovered around #100 on girl name charts for the past several years), so I would definitely consider naming a daughter Maria.

Just so beautiful and eternal. I also love Anna, Jane, Eleanor, Lucy, Josephine, Alice, Catherine, Elizabeth these kind of names make me think of the sister from Little Women because they're all international and understated but at the same time classic.

Be at least a tiny bit original with your names I beg of you, there are already enough Marias in this world.

My name is Maria and it suits me perfectly and its meaning is the best part of it. Meaning "the one who is loved by God" and nothing can compare to that. I am blessed and grateful that I was given my beautiful name. It's as beautiful as a sunflower in full bloom and its meaning is respect.

Way too common! While I love this name, I would rather use something like Mariana. It's just as beautiful but not incredibly common.

The most overused name in the entire world. Nothing unique or beautiful whatsoever. If you want your kid made fun of or to feel like they are exactly like everyone else with no unique qualities of any kind, name them Maria.

Well, this is the 2nd most common first name in the world. At the same time, I can see why. It's a classic, it's universal, well known, it sounds pretty, Maria is easy to spell and pronounce. It still manages to sound fresh even after years of use. Maria seems more vibrant and lively than plain old Mary. Mary is also pretty, but I think it's boring.

In my honest opinion it’s overused as hell (Especially in Hispanic cultures) but it’s honestly not bad.

Well, Maria is good name, classic, has quality, history, however, it is so popular, probably one of the most popular names for woman. So common, but still alright.

Maria in my Latino culture it is WAY overused. Half my female relatives are named Maria with a differed middle name: Maria Cecilia, Maria Isabel, etc. I was named Maria Stephanie. Funny thing is that to avoid confusion, we all go by our middle names. So everyone knows me as Stephanie, but on paper I am Maria which always made things confusing in school. ("Huh? I thought you said your name was Stephanie.") Wish my parents had reversed it and named me Stephanie Maria.

I don’t think this name could suit a boy in America. While Maria could be unisex in more Hispanic countries like Mexico, Spain, or Italy, it’s considered strictly feminine in English Speaking counties such as here in the United States, same with the Polynesian unisex name Moana. They’re both feminine sounding names particularly in America. I love Maria for a GIRL. It’s a very classy and elegant name. A perfect relative for the girl’s name Marie. Although you could name your children (boys & girls) whatever you want especially in such a free country like America, the freedom to name males anything out of all the name books isn’t exactly 100% accurate.
