Pretty. I prefer it as a middle name.
under my skyn  5/14/2021
I think it's just as unique and beautiful as other names like Cosmo, Constance, Patience, etc.
Crystal_Wolf  4/13/2021
Really pretty, but I wouldn't use it on a little girl. Maybe Starla is better?
Crystal_Fox  3/8/2021
I think it's a legitimately beautiful & unique name.
StormySundae  3/4/2021
Why would anyone name themself Star, do people think their kids are flaming balls of gas or maybe they just want to torture them, Star is one of the worst names anyone can come up with.
― Anonymous User  3/2/2021
Star as Star is beautiful, but I don't like it as person's name. Just feels immature, childish, just boring!
DeeDeeRee  2/27/2021
Dear moms,
Please please please stick with Starla! It's so much prettier and you can use the nickname Star for it.
Janessa2542  1/10/2021
I like it as a middle name, but this name is still pretty!
Shadow and Revenge  1/5/2021
I can’t believe nobody’s mentioned about being a backward spelling of ‘Rats’.
Inxpect  12/2/2020
I personally don’t think Star is a bad name. I used to want to name my daughter Star (if I ever have one) and you guys kinda ruined it for me, lmao. Anyways, I wouldn’t name my daughter Star because I want her famous. I would name my daughter that because I actually like it. I’m pretty interested in stars and space, so yeah.
ciara23  9/1/2020
I love to look at the stars at night and I love the sound of Star, I just don't think it would work as a first name. Maybe a middle.

Amanda Star
Anna Star
Natalie Star
Marie Star
Amy Star
Kayla Star

I guess it works as a middle name.
Honestly, I love Stella a whole lot more, I think Stella is very pretty.
Anders1234  8/9/2020
Just use Sitara which means the same thing.
― Anonymous User  6/26/2020
I personally think the name Star is a beautiful name. I don’t want my child to become famous, that’s not even the intent. I just like the sounding, and stars are pretty cool to look at in the night, including constellations and stuff. I probably would not name my child Star, though. It’s just not that high up.
MoonlitRiverine  4/11/2020
Strange. Plus, a child with this name is going to be teased.
― Anonymous User  2/23/2020
Tacky. There are so many other pretty celestial names.
someone-  11/8/2019
My code name is Star. I chose this name because I imagined his name to be someone who is smart, strong, and not sensitive. Someone who isn't a freak like me.
― Anonymous User  1/7/2019
Hello! My name is Star! I think that it's amazing and beautiful and I thank my parents for naming me the most wonderful name that they could ever name me!
― Anonymous User  11/21/2018
Thanks a lot! YOU made people despise this name! "If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say it at all!" Quote by Stars123.
This is a beautiful, pretty name. I agree, Anonymous User.
Stars123  3/1/2021
Star Butterfly from Star Vs The Forces Of Evil.
MysteryDork  11/6/2018
A bit pompous, but it's okay.
Luvbug86  9/11/2018
My name is Star and I think it is a good name because it means that your child is your light, hence the name Star.
star takeda  8/28/2018
This name is super weird. Why Star? There are so many beautiful alternatives to this name: Stella, Estelle, Estella, Danica, and Esther. In my opinion, Star is only suited for fictional characters. I'm sure the same people that like Star are the same people who think Justice is a trashy name.
kayisforkeen  8/10/2018
There is a girl named Star on my favorite show: Star vs the Forces of Evil. I really want to name my future daughter Star. I don't think this name is hideous at all. I think it is very unique and rare.
Lilalicious  3/16/2018
I'm confused as to why people hate this name so much- I personally don't think it sounds tacky, and I guess it doesn't remind me of a "hollywood brat" because I can tell you I'm the opposite and have this name. I do get teased, but it's always playful and never intended negatively, so I don't mind. It's not trashy, tacky, or stupid- it's weird yeah, but in all honesty I'd keep this name before I would have "Beth" or "Kate". It's a simple name, easy to remember, and you probably won't meet too many people with it, either. I personally like it alright.
doukz  12/25/2017
I can’t help but adore this name, it sounds gorgeous & a star itself is beautiful. I love it so much!
ItsDeleceNotDallas  12/17/2017
I personally like the name. Star reminds me of the sun, light and brightness, which are denotations of shining, and I think I would see my child as the brightest thing in my life.
― Anonymous User  11/27/2017
My preferred name is Star. I love it and think it is unique. Also, I love that it is a celestial or nature name. It sounds beautiful too! Feel free to go by Star or name someone Star. :)
Starzodiac1  10/30/2017
This is my actual name. Seriously... I HATE it. Please do NOT name your child Star. Your child will be teased their entire life, even into their 40's. I am still annoyed with my mom for naming me Star. I want to change my name so bad. I am considering changing my name on FB so people quit messaging me and asking me about my name.
starw23  6/30/2017
Love this name! I don't plan on naming my future daughter Star, but that's only because I've already used it for my cat's name, lol.
Brittanie Sidebottom  9/23/2016
The name Star was given to 92 girls born in the US in 2015.
HerculePoirot  6/14/2016
105 baby girls in the USA (2014) were given Star.
lilolaf  4/19/2016
My name is Starr. The name was a bit annoying to have when I was in elementary school, but living in Northern California, it isn't THE tackiest name here. I am half Persian and 'Star' translates into the very common Iranian name 'Setareh'. Now, a lot of people seem to like my name. I like my extra R, as it does seem a bit more like a name (and is a very common surname). It is a bit disappointing that many of my fellow Star/Starrs aren't the greatest... Starr Jones and Charles Manson's wife (it's also a name that pretentious girls change their name to- I've met a few weird Stars). I like to think I make up for it though! I'm a lover of science and prefer to think of my name for what it represents and that feels special. If you're going to raise an awesome kid, PLEASE, feel free to name her Starr! :-)
starrkash  7/31/2015
I have encountered this name only once and it was on a guy living in British Columbia, Canada.
― Anonymous User  6/24/2015
I am truly shocked so many people hate this name! My 8 year old daughter is called Star with the middle name Jane. I named her after the Jamie Gertz character in my favourite film, the Lost Boys. I think it is a gorgeous name, and I'm certainly not trailer trash, I'm a well educated English mother. I have had many people saying my daughters' name is beautiful.
reagan96  4/21/2015
Protagonist of the Disney XD cartoon "Star Vs. The Forces of Evil".
yememe413  3/8/2015
To be honest, I think this name is pretty tacky. Definitely would not recommend. It's ten times better than the spelling Starr.
Kathy D.  12/18/2014
Unique! But still strange!
Hushpuppy  2/8/2014
I personally wouldn't name my daughter this, but it is beautiful, and I love space and celestial beings, so to me it sparks an intrigue to look up in the sky and wonder. To me it sounds like the name would belong to someone who is happy, kind, bubbly and kind of mysterious.
_0TophasNails_1  2/4/2014
Sound: Very pretty. Short. Easy to remember
Originality: 10/10. Never heard this name before.
Spelling: Perfect.
Overall: I don't even need to read the comments to know a lot of people are hating on this name. Personally I think this a nice, beautiful name.
Gio123  10/12/2013
134 poor little girls were given the name Star in 2012 in the US.
Oohvintage  7/17/2013
"134 poor little girls were given the name Star in 2012 in the US" - Oohvintage

Um, poor? I think Star is a wonderful, beautiful name! They are fortunate enough to have an uncommon name.
― Anonymous User  6/21/2014
Since "Star" is considered a tacky name in the US, I wonder if in Italy Stella (Star in Italian) is considered tacky..? (Obviously Stella is a much more beautiful and intellectual sounding name that Star and would make a great alternative if you like the meaning).
― Anonymous User  6/3/2013
The 1934 Shirley Temple film "Captain January" featured Star Mason. [that was the character Temple played] I love this name.
anoldfashionedgirl  3/12/2013
I always thought it was a unisex name, too. I know guys with this name. My name is Esther (and nicknamed Sturr) which has the same meaning and sounds sort of similar, but I don't like Star/Starr as a name.
EstherTester  1/24/2013
Although not my favorite, this is really pretty.
Joy12  5/3/2011
When I was very little I had two of the same Barbie doll and made them twins named Angel and Star. I thought the names were gorgeous and perfect...

After having grown up, I can say my taste (and the times) have changed. Star is quite tacky now, I agree. I think of bleached hair and blue eyeshadow.
Book_Reader22  3/25/2011
This is Venus Ebony Starr Williams' name. Famous tennis player.
earthangel  3/6/2011
I have a friend named Star and I think it's a very nice name. Simple and unique, it doesn't sound trashy at all to me.
― Anonymous User  6/20/2010
Very tacky, in my opinion. Also, I dislike the fact that it spells "rats" backwards.
Athena Nike  4/4/2010
I used this for my daughter Elizabeth's middle name. I wanted a name that was short and pretty and since most people don't use their middle names, I chose Star because it's kind of different and not overused.
― Anonymous User  4/2/2010
It is very tacky. Like naming a kid Love or something.
― Anonymous User  3/15/2010
I once had a friend whose mom had a twin sister. The mom was Angel, and the aunt was Star. I always thought those were cool twin names, and I really like both of them. (Though today, I prefer Angel on a boy, actually.)
― Anonymous User  7/25/2009
I much prefer Stella, which means the same thing.
― Anonymous User  6/17/2009
This name makes me think of "Ringo Star", so I think of it more as a boys name.
camilana646  4/18/2009
vomiting  3/6/2009
In the 1987 film Lost Boys, Star is a main character's name.
lizard  11/9/2008
I had two pet rats. One called Star, the other Dash. I really love the name 'Star' but my partner won't let me use it if we have a daughter for obvious and already stated reasons above. :(
crypx  10/7/2008
This sounds pretentious as a person's name. It shows that the parents want their daughter to be a celebrity. And if she doesn't (or doesn't want to be one), what will the parents do?
bananarama  8/16/2008
I think Star would be a nice name for a horse or bunny, but for a person it's just plain weird.
― Anonymous User  5/8/2008
This name is very exotic, but I don't like the fact that it is rats backwards.
― Anonymous User  4/19/2008
This is the stage surname of Ringo Starr, the drummer for The Beatles, and a member of the Order of the British Empire. His real name is Richard Starkey.

There was also a tertiary character on the Nickelodeon cartoon Danny Phantom known as Starr (she didn't have a last name).
maxwelledison  3/13/2008
I like this name, but only as a middle. I think it'd make a very good middle name but not a good first name, for a first name I like Stella which means Star.
― Anonymous User  3/10/2008
I hate random words (Grace, Joy, Heaven, Faith, Destiny, Comfort, etc.) that become names.
jasmineenimsaj  3/1/2008
I love it. This name goes right up there with Luna. It's great. And why say 'you'd have to be mad'? I think it's LOVELY.
stormy_lovegood  11/8/2007
Star reminds me of some ditzy blonde girl who lives in Beverly Hills and tries to live up to her name.
― Anonymous User  4/5/2007
Lovely. As a middle name. My mom has a cousin whose name was Star Camper, which I think is cute. And I grew up with a little redheaded girl named Star (but her real name was La Star. Ew). But I really like this as a middle name.
Jasmine  2/24/2007
It's kind of tacky and makes me think of Star Jones. Which is never a good thing.
― Anonymous User  2/23/2007
I love stars, and they're very nice, but I think a person named after them is a little bit tacky.
7up  2/19/2007
I agree that it makes a great middle name.
― Anonymous User  1/20/2007
Star Manning is the teenage character on daytime TV's "One Life to Live".
Missy  1/8/2007
This is a unisex name.
― Anonymous User  1/7/2007
I don't like this name at all for a girl. For a boy, UGH! If you have this name, you are shiny, right? :D
libbygirl  12/19/2006
If you have twins, it would be a great idea to name them Star and Stella. This is because Stella means "star".
Taydbug112  11/16/2006
I like the name, but if you want to convey the same meaning, why not name your daughter Stella? It sounds more like a name, and she would probably get less teasing that way.
― Anonymous User  8/14/2006
Overall, I like this name, and I don't think it's at all ludicrous.
Nicola17  7/21/2006
This is a wonderful name. Simple and beautiful. I've known two Stars. I also think this would be a good middle name.
gigibee  7/10/2006
Star is a very exotic name, but technically there's no sense in it.
FairyGirl  6/25/2006
A notorious bearer of a variant of the name, Starr, was Starr Faithfull, a 1920's party girl whose mysterious death made headlines during the Jazz Age.
helenchernen  5/29/2006
"Star" in Bulgarian means "old". The longest and the largest mountain in Bulgaria is "Stara planina" ("Old Mountain") also called (the) "Balkan". "Stara planina" (750 km) stretches from the eastern part of Serbia to the Black Sea, the Bulgarian part of the mountain is 550 km.
iva_toneva  5/15/2006
My aunt was going to name her daughter Starr but it ended up being a boy. I'm kind of impartial to the name but don't think it's horrible. It could grow on me, but never be a favorite.
little_kit  4/22/2006
Famous bearer: StarFox Mcloud.
Tbird  4/6/2006
You would have to be mad to give a girl this name.
― Anonymous User  3/28/2006
This is a hideous name.
― Anonymous User  1/24/2006
Starr Jones is a T.V. personality. She is on "The View" with Barbara Walters.
breakofday  12/16/2005
I LOVE the name Star. There is a goddess in Africa by the name of Astar, and she is a love goddess. I also love "Star" because it makes people think of love and mystery.
