[Opinions] Laurel & Jasmine ...
What are your opinions and/or impressions of Laurel / Laurell & Jasmine?
For some reason I've been liking these lately, most likely a shortlived fascination, but who knows.

They are ok, I don't think I love them enough to use them. I prefer Lara or Lauren to Laurel.

I think Laurel is timely, classic and feminine. Jasmine....I just can't get over the cartoon character from Aladdin. :-) I much prefer Jessamyn/Jessamine to Jasmine. I think they have a timeless feel to them while Jasmine seems more trendy to me.To be born Welsh is not to be born with a silver spoon in your mouth, but with a song in your heart.

I really don't like Laurel, it seems very weak and middle aged lady to me plus the ditzy person off Emmerdale has swayed me completely Jasmine however I think is beautiful, my cousin is called Jasmine Maire :)Alice

I really like the name Laurel. Jasmine is a pretty name, but I always think of "Aladdin" when I hear it. I liked the movie. It's just it would be annoying to always have my name associated with a Disney movie (if I were named Jasmine).

I really find Laurel awkward sounding. I think it's because of the l ending. I'd much prefer Laura. And, I think Jasmine is very pretty.

Laurel I don't like, sorry. It sounds too much like Lorelei, another name I can't stand! Jasmine is very pretty though, I've always kinda liked it. They do sound good as a sib set though.

I absolutely love Laurel! Right now it's in my top 5. It fluctuates a lot. And goes head to head with Laura as my favorite Laur- name.I don't much care for Jasmine but it has grown on me some. Before I used to hate it and now I still don't like it but I can see the appeal.

Jasmine has been ruined by one disney harlot and every poor little girl/cat/dog/etc. that have been named after her. Laurel I have no problem with, and I rather like the nn Laurie.
A is for Amy who fell down the stairs, B is for Basil assaulted by bears, C is for Clara who wasted away, D is for Desmond thrown out of a sleigh... !!!!!!!!!! - Tobias, Jesse, Wyatt, Shane, Preston, Maverick, Rebel, Gibson, Shiloh, and Timber

Well my sister is named Laurie (pronounced LAWR-ee) so that wouldn't work. And how in the world is Jasmine a harlot? It's a children's cartoon.

I'm just disturbed by the clothes she's wearing. I mean, really. This is a children's movie, and she's wearing BASICALLY a bra and really low pouffy pants. She's also insanely thin. This is not a good role model. This is possibly a worse role model than Barbie. Barbie at least can wear non-revealing dental hygenist uniforms. Plus now she's not so stacked. Jasmine always looks like she does. This (bad role models in children's entertainment) is the only issue I feel conservative/censorship-ish about, but yeah, maybe I was being a tiny bit more dramatic than I needed to be with the word harlot. BTW, is there another way to pron. Laurie besides LAWR-ee? I've always said it like that; since I read Little Women when I was eight. It's my (male) teddy bear's name.

Most people pronounce Laurie as LOR-ee. My sister was more or less namded for Little Women. My mother wanted to name her daughters Amy, Meg & Beth but her cousin ended up doing something like that. Most people mispronounce my sister's name, including my 5-year old nephew.

I really like the name Laurel. It's pretty, but not too "out there" for me.
Jasmine is alright, but I get annoyed by the random spellings: Jazmin, Jazmine, Jazmyne, Jasmin, Jazmyn, Jasmyn (all of which made the top 1,000 for 2004)

Jasmine is the only spelling I like. All the others don't look right to me. They either look mispelled or incomplete imo.

I like Jasmine: it's beautiful and has a hint of the exotic about it. Laurel sounds nice, but just makes me think of Laurel & Hardy, so for me any elegant/ graceful connotations are out the window. :-)Freddo
