That was my eighth grade block teacher's name, as well as mine (with a slight spelling difference: my name is Amalie, but pronounced the same way). I really love the name, and will give it do a daughter of mine, as a middle name only.
My middle name is Hope, so that might work. I think other one- or two-syllable names would work.

It's kind of harsh sounding to me, and I used to like it more than I do now, but it's not bad at all. I have an elderly neighbor (from Israel) named Amalia (she also goes by Malia), and I call her Miss Amalia, which sounds like Miss Somalia. :b It's funny to me how many people mispronounce her name, even when she says it to them, they say, 'Oh, Amelia?' Sheesh.

I think that Amalia is just beautiful. Id has an elegance and grandness that Amelia just doesn't quite have. It's less popular too which adds to it's attraction. I guess I never really thought about the pronunciation before, I've always pronounced it like Amelia only with the Ama- sound at the beginning so it would be ah-mahl-ya but BtN says that ah-MAH-lee-ah is the correct way to pronounce it.Middle names:Amalia Beatrice (I love Beatrice Amalia)

Amalia is very nice. It's a nice alternative to Amelia. I also really like Malia. For middle names, I would probably pair it with a shorter name, as Amalia is long. What about:
Amalia Tess
Amalia Wynne
Amalia Neve
Amalia Kate
Amalia Liv
Amalia Brooke

Oh, Amalia. Lovely. Very old world. :-) I suppose some might think it's a pretentios version of Amelia. But it has a solid history of its own behind it that I like. If she doesn't like it she could always go by Amy or even Molly. Amalia Blanche
Amalia Sophie
Amalia Charlotte
Amalia Margarethe
Amalia Johanna
Amalia Beatrix

Amalia Dagmar
Amalia Georgine
