I find it horribly dated. I don't think the sound of it is pleasant either. I just really don't like it. :/

But I like Laverne as well. It makes me think of sitting in a screened-in porch with green pressing up all around, and wood and slow summer warmth and sagging old orange chesterfields and drinking out of jam jars and chipped pottery mugs.

Patty, Maxine and Laverne were the Andrews Sisters, of WWII singing fame. Most people proabably wouldn't remember them. I'm showing my age.

More people would remember "Laverne and Shirley," a 1970's sitcom. But even then I don't think it would register with a dd's age group.

While I prefer quirky Laverna, I like Laverne's gentle qualities as well. It reminds me of Lenore that way. Names with a "v" sound in them are hot right now. I'd love to meet a little Laverne. :-)

I like it. It's got personality; I can't imagine a boring Laverne. And while it has quite a girly, delicate sound, the retro feel of it also conjures up a tough old broad with a heart of gold, so it's simultaneously feisty and girly. I'd automatically stick it with something like Francine or Gloria, but it would work just as well with, say, Daisy or Eleanor.

I don't like it. It sounds dated and makes me think of Laverne and Shirley.

my babysitter used to watch re runs of that show when I was little....

For me, it creates the impression of a loud, bossy woman who wears tacky clothing and chews gum constantly, and has brightly colored horned rim glasses and dangling earrings, and brightly colored high heel shoes and really tight pants.

This is in spite of the fact that the only Laverne I ever knew was nothing at all like that. She was my teenage best friend's mother. A well-spoken, well-dressed woman who could sing and play the piano and who was the musical director of all of our community theater group's musicals. Didn't change my impression of the name. Go figure. I still find it a tacky name.

This was my grandmother's name and who I was named after (my name is Lisa, not Laverne). I associate it with older people. It's not a name I would use.

Oh, I'm shamelessly fond of Laverne. I love its velvety, faux-French panache.
