I have a grandmother named Margaret (who ALWAYS goes by Peg), so I am familiar with this name. A cousin of mine was named after her, and is called Maggie. I have heard of Margaret being shortened to Maisie, wdyt? Does the nn make sense to you, and do you like Maisie as a nn to Margaret? Thanks :)

I adore Margaret, it's such a spunky name and has so many great nicknames. Unfortunately I can't use it for family reasons. *sigh*
Margaret Ophelia is great. I think the too-popular Olivia drags it down a bit.
Just about anything works with Margaret! My late great-aunt was Edith Margaret "Peggy".

Brogan, Margaret is lovely! I don't care for the nns, though. Maggie seems harsh, and though there is not a thing wrong with Maisie- That's what I named my calico kitten when I was five, and now she has grown into a beautiful and rambunctious cat. So, I could never picture Maisie on a child.

Margaret nn Maisie - brilliant! I've known one Margaret nn Maisie and one 'just' Maisy.
Maisie I always thought came from the scottish Marsaili, the Scottish version of Marjorie / Margery, and hence Margaret. In any case, it is very strongly Scottish to my ears- both Maisies I know are Scottish (or her parents are).

Do you think it would be okay for someone NOT Scottish at all to use? In your own personal opinion? I'm 100% Irish :)

I'm English and Dutch, my DH is English and Metis- so I unfortunately don't think we could use some of the beautiful Scots and Irish names, but that wouldn't stop most- and I don't necessarily think it should.
In sum, it's great :-P

Yes, I love Maisie as a nn for Margaret or Mairead. I also like Maggie and Meg, but Maisie is my favorite. Maisie is a nn for Mairead, but Mairead is a form of Margaret so Maisie as a nn for Margaret seems totally logical to me. :b Margaret Olivia and Margaret Ophelia are both gorgeous, btw.

Maisie is a legit nn for Margaret in my opinion anyway, I once knew a woman called Margaret who was known as Maisie by her family
