Re: -ian names
Okay, let's see...
Vivian -I love this. A LOT. For a boy. (Vivienne / Viviana for a girl.)
Adrian -Like, but don't love. Seems like the nerdy type and all business.
Cyprian -I love this and I love Ciprian (I bring the alternate spelling up because pronunciation is quite different.)
Caspian -I love the Narnia character. And I've always thought the sea had a lovely name. I'm into it. My sister intends to use it for a child one day if she has a son.
Marian -I love this for a boy. I don't mind it for a girl, but the Romanian pronunciation of Marian is so gorgeous to my ears and they use it as a male name so that's my jam now.
Dorian -The other name my sister intends to use for a son. She has wanted Dorian and Caspian for 10+ years now.
Ian -It's okay. I don't hate it. I know a lovely Ian. But I also would never
Florian -Lovely and I adore it.
Lucian -Like it as LOO-see-an, but hate it as LOO-shen. The "loosh" sound just sounds really stupid to my ears.
Fabian -I don't like it this, but I assume it's just because I think of bean farmers and Fabio. Bean farmers that look like Fabio? Idk. It's not my thing more because of association than because of sound. Maybe if I ever met a Fabian in real life, it would change my opinion.
Hadrian -I love the sound of this, but as someone with a strong Celtic heritage, I wouldn't use it because it seems disrespectful to those ancestors.
Vespasian -Cool in theory. Like one of those cool-for-a-fantasy-novel kind of names. Like it was made up for The Chronicles of Narnia or something instead of actual real life use.
Sebastian -I love this name. You will pry this name from my cold, dead hands. It's classic and ancient and yet climbing in popularity right now thus making it young and refreshing again. And Sebaste isn't a place anymore, I know, but the name sounds so cool so who cares if it means "from this place that doesn't exist anymore." (And the Sebastian Stan association does nothing but help it.)
Julian -I like it. It's very nice. I think it ages well.
Finnian -I want to love it like I do most Fin names, but I'm just somewhere between neutral and like.
Ninian -Can't like this one. It makes me think of "ninny."
Other -ian names I like/love*:
Gratian* - It's GRAY-shen, btw. Lots of people had trouble with pronouncing Gratiana so... (Also in Romania, it gets a cool tail on the T -Graţian,- but it's pronounced pretty much the same.)
Maximilian
Silvian* / Sylvian* -I would marry someone named Silvian / Sylvian before they even knew what happened. (Link: uh, use Silvius)
Lilian* -Okay for a girl, but so cool for a boy (like they use it in France.)
Iulian -I know you had Julian, but the pronunciation difference makes this one worth mentioning.
Darian* -I like both pronunciations.
Felician -Not in the database, but Félicien is. Interesting that I like these, but I don't like Felicia.
Alexian* -A bit surprised this hasn't been added to the database. Use Alexius for info.
Cassian
Elian
Ilian (Link: Ilia)
Emilian
Balian -I learned about this name watching Kingdom of Heaven and in my head, I spelled it Bailion. Obviously, I was wrong. Link: https://www.behindthename.com/name/balian/submitted
Cillian / Killian
Sevastian
Valerian
Aurelian -Can't believe this one isn't in the database. Use the Aurelius link if you want info.
Stelian
Dacian -I like Daciana enough so the male form is kind of nice too even if it's also naming after a place that isn't really there anymore.
Abian -https://www.behindthename.com/name/abian/submitted
Caelian -Link: Caelius
Sorian -I have no info on this one. I found it in the submitted names and I like it. It says it's Romanian which is at least half of an explanation as to why I like it.
Valentinian -I really just want to like this because it's so much fun to say. But there's also Valentinianus to consider.
Siân -I had to mention it. I had to.
And the The Chronicles of Narnia books have:
Caspian (obviously)
Drinian
Sospepian
Rilian
Tirian (Which I guess is prononced like Tyrion from GoT.)
Arlian
Erlian
Octesian
RevilianLastly...
You know you can search both the database and the submitted database for these names by searching *ian, right?
