1. Do you think the name William will inevitabley be shortened?
- Yes, especially by his friends as he grows up. I've never met a William whose name isn't shortened most - if not all - of the time. With so many established nns to choose from, people are most unlikely to stick with William.2. Do you like the nick names Will or Liam? - No, both are plain to me. And I find Liam confusing because it's nearly always a full name. I don't much care for any of William's nns, but my favourite would have to be Billie.3. Do you think William is too formal? - yes, for me personally4. Apart from Will or Liam, can you think of any other nicknames. - Willie and Billie are the only ones that come to mind5. Do you think William Christopher is a nice combo? - OK, but too long and both names are too popular so it has a generic feel to it_____________________________________________________________________"You are never given a wish without also being given the power to make it true."Elinor

1. Do you think the name William will inevitabley be shortened?
Not necessarily. In my family it would be, but in some others it wouldn't.2. Do you like the nick names Will or Liam?
I like both of them.3. Do you think William is too formal?
I think it's formal enough to need a casual nickname.4. Apart from Will or Liam, can you think of any other nicknames.
Hmm. I guess Bill or Billy is a bit out-of-fashion these days, although I like Billy. I suppose you could use Lee, but it's a bit of a stretch.5. Do you think William Christopher is a nice combo?
Yes, it's great :-)Edited to add:
A couple of other nicknames you could use are Willis (English), Gwil (Welsh) or Pim (Dutch). If you click on the William hyperlink and then choose 'Related Names' you'll be able to see every possible variation and nickname for William.:-)

1. Do you think the name William will inevitabley be shortened Since the current trend seems to be towards giving little boys common names without nicknames or just nicknames, I'd say no. In fact, I'd much rather see a kid with a nickname. I'm sick of all the Jameses, Christophers, Roberts, and Michaels. Give me Jim, Chris/Christo, Bobby, and Mike/Mick/Mickey/Mikey/etc any day.2. Do you like the nick names Will or Liam? No. I sort of like Will, since I love Will & Grace, but I think both are much too common and far too yuppie-ish for my tastes.3. Do you think William is too formal? It reminds me a bit too much of William F. Buckley, Jr, if you consider him formal.4. Apart from Will or Liam, can you think of any other nicknames. I much prefer Bill to either. While it sort of reminds me of Bill Lumbergh, I think it's a lot more interesting than hearing yet another kid named Will. Otherwise, I've always thought that Whim would be a neat nickname--the same way I like Cricket for Christopher.5. Do you think William Christopher is a nice combo? It's safe. It's too drab for me, but I do like Christopher.Array

I think it's a nice name. If I used the name, I would go with Liam as a nn. I also like Will too.

I don't think William would be shortened nickname wise but Will would probably be used affectionately I love the nn Will William is not too formal! It's refreshing on a younger person I think Bill, Billy, Illia, Em, Wo, Bo, Willy, Lia (most of these I have heard but have no idea how they got them out of William!William Christopher is great Alice x

1. Do you think the name William will inevitabley be shortened? Yes, I think there will be a big tendancy to call him Will. Unless, of course, you make it a point for people to know that he's William. This shouldn't be a problem, though. A little 6-year-old I know is named William, and he will correct you if you call him Will. 2. Do you like the nick names Will or Liam? I like both as I know some very respectable men with these names. 3. Do you think William is too formal? Not at all. I love it. 4. Apart from Will or Liam, can you think of any other nicknames. Willy? 5. Do you think William Christopher is a nice combo? I do. Maybe a bit long, but I think the names go together well.

1. Do you think the name William will inevitabley be shortened?
Yes, almost certainly. I personally like the nns much better so I don't think that's a bad thing2. Do you like the nick names Will or Liam?
I like them both. Liam seems a softer name to me whereas Will implies quite a strong, steady bloke. Depends what effect you're going for.3. Do you think William is too formal?
Do you mean in general? Or calling the child William the whole time? My friend Will's mum still calls him William most of the time and that nakes it sound overly-formal to me, but as a name in general it's fine.4. Apart from Will or Liam, can you think of any other nicknames.
Umm only Bill and Billy and Willy, and I don't like any of those!5. Do you think William Christopher is a nice combo?
Yes :)S xx

1) probably, but that doesnt mean you have to call him by a shorter name. I love Mitchell, and dont really like the nn Mitch. If I named my son Mitchell, I would call him Mitchell, not Mitch. I cant control what everyone else calls him by, thats his decision.2) Will, please! I detest Liam3) No way! William does sound a little formal, but I wouldnt say TOO formal. I think all first names should have a formal way about them. Thats why I cant stand using nn as fn.4) I personally love William myself, and feel no nn is needed, but if any, I choose Will (I have heard Billy used)5) William Christopher is nice, I like it!
