So, I really like the name Zoey (This spelling), but a lot of people are telling me that the spelling I like is not a "real" name and the "real" spelling is Zoe.
Is Zoey a real name or am I dumber than I thought?

I like it spelled Zoey better because Zoe lookes like Joe but with a Z. The y specifys the ending and people aren't too smart in this world with names so I'd go with Zoey.
An ex. of how dumb people are, my whole life I have been called Diane when my name is Diana. Diane is a totaly diff. name to me, not a NN. Even when it is written down on paper in front of them they say Diane!! STUPIDNESS.

Zoey is most definitely a real name. The people who tell you it's not are just anal compulsive about names, and need to get over it. If you like the name darling, then use it. It's all up to you.

I prefer this spelling too. I'm afraid that people will pronounce Zoe like Zo.

Being on this site does not make it a real name. Clinton is on this site--it's still a surname. Emilee is on this site--it's still Emily misspelled. Zoey is a kre8tyve variation of Zoe, just like Lyndsi and Britnee are kre8tyve variations on Lindsay and Brittany (which are borderline legit in the first place). A "real" name is one that has history, a meaning, and a derivation, for lack of a better word. Zoe, for example, means "life" in Greek. Zoey is Zoe with a Y tacked on.
I'm curious--how are Lyndsi and Britnee real names? Are they real just because people have used them before?

I much prefer Zoey to Zoe anyways. Zoe (without the dots) looks like it should be prncd Zo as Joe is.

Zoey is a variant, and is very much seen as "real". However, most people probably see Zoe as the "correct" spelling. (I see it as a debate between Catherine and Katherine - both are seen as a proper spelling, but we all have opinions on which is "right")
I prefer Zoe, mainly because I see the y as "wasting space", but I wouldn't say Zoey isn't a name or incorrect spelling.

Zoe is the more commen spelling where I live.

I think people say it is not "real" because it is a modern English variation on the name, much like other creatively spelled names.

I prefer Zoey, too, for various reasons. I don't feel like getting into my tl;dr thoughts on whether or not it's a "real" name, and what makes a name real, though.
