[Opinions] Alice
My husband wants to try for another child in September and in the *very* off chance that I agree we've been discussing names. My daughter has two middle names, both of which honor. We've tentatively settled on Anne Cecilia or Judith Cecilia (Judy). We were thinking of adding in a third name to honor our love of books. Alice came up, a name I've disliked in the past. It's the first name of two of my favorite authors (Hoffman and Munro) and my husband is a huge fan of Alice in Wonderland. Thoughts? For a boy the name is set in stone and I fully admit the second middle name is absurd. And I don't care. Paul Alexander Gawain.Again it is very unlikely that we'll have another child, so thoughts?

As much as I love Alice in Wonderland, I don't even remotely like the name Alice. Lice. Gross. I can't get past that part for some reason but it also seems very old ladyish to me. I actually don't mind Gawain.

I love Alice, but not in a combo with Cecilia -- too much "li".

I would think any of these names would complement Miriam. Alice, in particular, has a sweetness to it that I love.ETA that Anne Cecilia Alice is lovely.

Paul Alexander Gawain is awesome. Gawain makes the combo.Anne Cecilia Alice is lovely. Very classy. Judith Cecilia Alice is harder to enjoy, all the names sort of sluice into one another. Judy Cecilia Alice is rad though, so I'm still into it. Love Judy!

Anne Cecilia Alice is beyond darling. Not so much of a fan of Judith, it's just a name I've never been able to get behind. Nothing horrendous about it, though. How are you pronouncing Gawain? I do medieval lit as part of my degree and I hear at least three pronunciations of it from the lecturers.

I've got a friend who pronounces it GAH-win, but agreed, have heard multiple different pronunciations from history & English professors. One fully admits he doesn't know how to pronounce it but says Gah-WANE because it rhymes with more things.

I much prefer Anne to Judy; Judith is nicer but unlikely to happen IRL.Anne Cecilia Alice floats my every boat!

I love Alice. And I think it would be a nice way of honor your love for books.
I quite like your boys combo, it's handsome. And Paul is much better than Malcolm.
The only thing that bugs me a bit is that all your choices are very, very different from Miriam. It's hard even to imagine a sibling to Miriam being named Anne, Cecilia, Judith or Paul.

Interesting. I love Judith and Miriam because they are both very Hebrew.Anyway, I managed to survive being named Haven with siblings Christopher, Benjamin and Jessica. Now that's a mismatched sibling set!

Really?I feel like Miriam would fit perfectly with any of those. They are all retro, mature, conservative religious names. They totally work for me!

I guess Miriam might give people in the US a different feeling. To me Miriam isn't retro or conservative. I'd imagine her siblings being named stuff like Felicity, Emilia, Leonora, Sigrid, Julian, Isidore, August, Silas, Zacharias....

BTW I love August, Sigrid, Zacharias and Leonora (really love this) and Julian has been a contender. But my husband has nixed them all.

I can see it go either way. It's an old name, like a conservative version of Mary, so I can see it with other old names. OTOH, it's got trendy sounds in it, with the ee sounds, so I can see it with modern trendy names too.

I think Judith Cecilia Alice would be lovely. I like Alice but would be unlikely to use it myself. Is got a very soft sound. And i think Paul Alexander Gawain rocks!
