This is another one that seems a bit 2010s celebrity trendy. But I like Violet.

A friend of mine just had a daughter called Violet. I like it a lot more than I thought. I'm not big on flower names.

Violet is an old-fave of mine and currently 6/10.
Being a so classic English name, it is one of the first foreign names I've been aware of thanks to movies and books.
However I strongly dislike its sound especially the vi- (VIE) sound. So harsh and not intuitive!
I also find Viola (VYOH-la) very cold, heavy and austere.
My favourite variant of the name is Violetta (vyo-LEHT-tah) that is both operatic and floral (violetta is "violet" as well).

I love Violet it is my favorite of the flower names. It's not dated at all It's just one of the ones that comes in and out of fashion. I do think it has potential to get gratuitously popular like the likes of Sophia or Emma though I truly hope that doesn't happen. There is a young girl in my community named Violet Rose, I think it is cute but the double flower is perhaps a little overkill IRL (as opposed to hypothetical name sets in which I'm all for eccentricity) unless of course the implication had been Violet the color, as in her name meaning purple rose. I also like the idea of Violet Claire or Violet Lucille.

Shy Violet, shrinking Violet ... not encouraging. Lovely flower, OK, but in spite of the shy and the shrinking, Violet is only an n away from being violent!
My grandmother remembered the previous outbreak of Violet-named people; she said that in her experience they were middle-aged and stout, wore corsets and tended to be noisy and bossy.
I don't know about any celebs with Violet offspring; if Rose and Lily are anything to go by, flower names are popular, so Violet may well become so.

It's a classic, so while it might be commonly used it won't be dated in a few years like some trendy names are. I like it personally, it's been on my top ten list for a while and I would potentially use it despite it's popularity.
