My sister-in-law had a baby girl on Thursday; her name is Athena. Her middle name is very unusual so I won't put it on here, but it's a family surname which is an animal (think Bear or Rabbit).

What do you think of Athena?
It's actually growing on me a lot now that I've met the baby and heard the name a few times.

I just met an Athena this week. Before I thought it was pretty but had a hard time picturing it on a real person but now I can, so I'm liking it more.

It's definitely pretty. Athena is probably the most usable of all the Greek god names because she wasn't a basket case like the others. :D

On a side note, I'm surprised to see that Athena is the 218th ranked name in the US. I had no idea it was that popular.

I like Athena a lot. It's got a great association (Goddess of Wisdom.) It's strong but beautiful.

I like Athena, but with an animal middle name it's a bit like baby talk.
"Uh theen a giraffe!"
"Oh really darling, that's nice."

Aww a baby Athena! I was never partial to the name on a goddess, but on a human person I think it's totally rad. So exciting!

PS: would you pm the middle name? I'm dying to know, it sounds adorable.

If my oldest grandson had been a girl, Athena was to be the name. I think it's pretty, but maybe overly Greek? Maybe? Kind of? Sort of? Maybe?

I thought it was unusual a few years ago when I met my first Athenas, but it grew on me too. I probably wouldn't have gone with an animal mn, but that's me.

I wouldn't have used the middle name either, but that was the name they were really set on due to it being a family surname. They would've used the same middle name for a boy.

I love it. I've been a big fan of Greek mythology from a young age, so that's probably why.
