Margaret - the name is okay but all I can think of is Thatcher and gah.
Mallory - looks like a last name
Edith - sorry! like it
Primrose - puke
Abigail - I try to like it because of nice ones I have known, but 'a big ail' is what I'm seeing
Ashley - BOYS NAME YUS IT IS
Verity - don't hate, but it does sound a bit precious
Avery - thing that has birds in it
Ella - sounds like annoying baby talk
Brooklyn - vom
Bella - my sister's dog
Emerson - 'oh it's got Emma in it! Must be a girl's name!' ugh
Addison - Alison with a cold
Lola - see Ella
Hope - nice idea but such an unattractive sound
Ireland - lol
Esme - ssslimee
London - rofl
Isla - this and Mia just fill me with great and mighty loathing.Never come across anyone with any of the boys' names, & really don't feel that I ever want to.

I agree with the majority of this list. Though I do happen to like, love or tollerate:
Margaret (spelled Margret)
Avery (not amazed by it but find it decsnt and practical. Reminds me of my neice's name, Aven)
Ella (cute, feminine, soft, innoncent sounding)
Tanner (Guilty pleasure name for me)
Hunter
Asher
Chance
Tucker (guilty pleasure. Would never use it because I know what it rymes with...)
Ezra/Jace (can tollerate them)Oh and also Ireland is a gp name for me but nothing id use.
vote up1
I really don't like most of those names so it's a shared feeling. The exception being Wayne.

EzraTotally with you on Atticus and Primrose, though. Quelle horreur.

EzraEzra as a name brings up a fascinatingly complex series of feelings for me. I love it because of how it looks, but I don't think I could ever use it because I can't imagine an Ezra being anything but a pompous asshole. I also can't see it on a woman, though I love pompous asshole names for girls. Ezra makes me sad and frustrated. DAMN YOU EZRAAAA
vote up1
I also feel these feelz, and I've never met one - but I know if I did that he'd be exactly as you say. And yet it's a male name ending in a, and it's short, and it has that handsome z in there... auughhh.
vote up1
I hate the way it sounds. And yes, it does sound like the name of a pompous asshole.

Margaret - Yeah, no. It's just so ugly and frumpy sounding. Mallory - I used to like this name a loot when I was younger. Now I'm 'eh' about it. I don't hate it, but I certainly don't like it.Edith - Okay, I love Edith. Mostly for the nickname Edie which is adorable to me. I'll never use it IRL but you better believe if I find a fitting character, they're gonna get named Edith!Primrose - First time I've ever heard this was in Hunger Games, so it's in the weird, not usable category for me.Abigail - I love Abigail, can't hate. Again, probably never use it, but I like.Ashley - I know sooo many Ashley's and it's just dated to me.Verity - My sister seriously considered this for my niece. She ended up with Madyson which I hate as well, but at least she's not Verity. Avery - This is a boy's name to me. It's okay.Ella - Not a real name to me. It's a nickname, which I think is overused anyways.Brooklyn - Another could be nieces's name. Glad that sister had boys. Bella - Again, this is a nickname/dog name.Emerson - Boys name. Could not see this on a girl, but I like it on a boy.Addison - Ugh, no.Lola - Like Lola the Bunny? It reminds me of a stripper tbh.Hope - Not my style at all. Nothing really wrong with it, I just don't like it.Ireland - This is a place, not a child's name.Esme - I don't know what it is about this name that I don't like either, but I don't.

Aw... Blaise made the list?Well, I guess we dont have the same taste! Not a huge fan of most of the names on your gals list, though I sincerely like Hope and Edith. In fact I semi-secretly love Edith. No idea why, must by the 'th'. The idea of a daughter nn-ed Edie is just adorable too. Otherwise... whew, your boys list has some of my faves!
Blaise is literally our top choice for a boy, on even standing with Evren right now. We just cannot decide. My husband even likes the Blaze spelling. I am sticking to Blaise though. Cash was our top nickname for the name Caspian. If our daughter had been a boy, she might have been a Caspian, nn Cash. Curtis is on my love-list (along with similar Clark, Clive, Kent and Calvin)I also think Jace, Asher, Ezra, Brent and Wade are usable. Malachi is too, but only because I know a boy with the name. Not personally fond of it. I AGREE with your assessment of most of the girls names, especially Emerson and Addison. I don't like all of the boys names you listed, but none I hate... except maybe Tanner and Kingston. Channing is not great either.
vote up1
I love Blaise too :) That spelling. But Evren's very handsome as well.

The only ones I like are Edith and Ella, and I don't mind Ezra. I agree with you on the rest!

Margaret: Never saw the appeal in this name. Yeah, it's classic, but so what? Classic doesn't equal good.
Mallory: Yuck. Sounds like a snooty girls' boarding-school student circa 1987; her chief hangers-on/best friends are Meredith and Caroline.
Edith: Hate it. Seems to be a BTN favorite, which makes no sense to me. Probably just because it hasn't been popular for seventy-something years.
Primrose: It would be a silly name even for a milk cow, which is all it's fit for.
Abigail: It's all right, but I like Abby better.
Ashley: Second favorite girls' name.
Verity: Good name for an insurance company, maybe. Verity, Fidelity, and Compassion, Inc.
Avery: Never liked it, on a boy or a girl.
Ella: Hate it. Ellen is so much prettier.
Brooklyn: Lame.
Bella: Very much a dog's name to me.
Emerson: Yawn.
Addison: Yawn and gag.
Lola: A dog's name, or an outdated, trying-so-hard-to-be-sexy kind of name. Big poofy hair, makeup two inches thick, dragon-lady fingernails and a big fat butt crammed into skin-tight jeans, or rather the skin-tight jeans are crammed into a big fat butt.
Hope: Not bad.
Ireland: Lame.
Esme: Like a sneeze you try to smother and end up getting snot all over your sleeve.
London: Cheesy.
Isla: Does nothing for me.
Blaise/Blaze: Blaze is a good name for a horse. But on a person it sounds porntastic.
Cruz: Even more porntastic.
Cullen: It's a cull.
Jagger: Giant lips and a seventy-year-old man who thinks he still has what he had at twenty.
Brent: Mostly neutral on this.
Wade: No go.
Wayne: Very middle-aged man.
Channing: Silly.
Tanner: Becoming a very popular dog's name.
Hunter: I'm over it; I don't get all outraged over it but I never really liked it.
Kingston: Kingston Livingston III was a fun Muppet.
Curtis: Very redneck middle-aged kind of name, but there's way worse.
Atticus: Another BTN drool-collector. Dumb.
Brock: Sounds to me like somebody choking on a piece of broccoli.
Grady: Yuck.
Cash: I happen to love cash, but only in my pocket. A friend of mine had a baby shower for her sister a few years ago, and the sister was going to name the baby boy Cash.

Edith is jumping at least ten spots each year.BtN is a good indicator of trends and popularity.
vote up1
I personally love Edith, and highly agree with your assesment of the pretty Ellen. I love Blaise (but it's a family name, and said family member was definitely not a porn star). Agree with a lot of your boy comments... and find it distasteful that a whole room of people would make fun of a baby's name like that. Poor mama.
vote up1
nobody was deliberately trying to hurt the mother's feelings ...And I'm pretty sure it wasn't planned because nobody knew what the activity was going to be. Cash just means money, that's all.

Ah. I see. From what you wrote, I thought people were making fun of the name en masse. In any case, she probably did feel bad that so many people made the same onesie. I used to love the name Soraya, but my mom kept saying Psoriasis. She meant it as a joke, but my daughter quickly lost the name Soraya (luckily before it was announced). Well, at least she found out the extent of people's connection with the name before she used it.

I love seeing what names people hate, much more than seeing what names people like love. Wonder why I'm so negative-minded. Anyway:Margaret -- I don't hate this but I don't like it. It's a classic I can't get into.Mallory -- Eh. Not terrible, but I wouldn't use it, that's for sure.Edith -- This can't lose the old lady image for me.Primrose -- Also hate this, it's ridiculous.Abigail -- Totally with you. Hate hate hate.Ashley -- I don't hate it, but something keeps me from really liking it. Aside from the fact that I'm sick of the sight of it because I've known so many, I'm thinking that I just don't find it feminine enough, although it's not terrible in that regard.Verity -- Nope, disagree. I love this name.Avery -- I hate it also. Weak, whiny, wimpy for a boy and not suitable for a girl.Ella -- Also hate. All I can think is "elephant."Brooklyn -- Agree. Abominable. Not that I think Brooklyn, NY, is bad at all, but as a personal name it's abominable.Bella -- Agree, I hate it. Worse than Ella. Heavy, ugly.Emerson -- Fairly neutral on this for a boy, think it's awful for a girl.Addison -- Oh my God this is so awful.Lola -- I don't hate it, but think it's got a sexual image that is a bit too much.Hope -- I don't hate it and don't love it.Ireland -- Ditto what I said about Brooklyn.Esme -- This is stupid. Hate it.London -- I don't mind this for a boy, hate it for a girl.

I think white people started using Cruz after the Beckhams used it for one of their sons. I met a few white Cruz's when I worked for the schools, and even the cute ones didn't make me like the name.A know a woman who named her only child Jagger. The kid is nine now, and a major brat.

I loathe --
Ashley, Avery (on a girl, anyway), Brooklyn, Emerson (again, on a girl), Addison (bloody love it for a boy), Ireland, London.
Cruz, Jagger, Brent, Wade, Wayne, Channing, Tanner, Curtis, Brock (what even is that?), Cash, Ashton, Chance, Braxton (Hicks), Tucker, Jace (makes me feel a little ill). I don't mind --
Mallory (more dislike than like, though), Abigail, Ella, Lola (would like it more if I hadn't bestowed it upon a furball), Hope, Esme (prefer Esmée), Isla.
Blaise (more dislike. Blaze is kind of stupid), Cullen (would love it if it weren't for a certain franchise), Kingston, Grady, Malachi. I love --
Margaret, Edith, Primrose, Verity
Atticus, Asher (well, like enough for my long list), Ezra

Brock is considered very steotypical dumb-athlete where I am. Not fair to the Brocks who are smart... but it does kina give off a dopey vibe to me.

Margaret: I like it in theory but don't think I would every use it. I like it on someone else's kid I guess.
Mallory: Don't like.
Edith: Love! I like how it sound lithe and ethereal and I love the nn Edie. Really, can't agree with you on this one.
Primrose: Cheesy
Abigail: Boring
Ashley: Boring and dated
Verity: I lean toward dislike.
Avery: Love on a boy, girls ruined it. I spit in their general direction.
Ella: It was okay until the Ella boom.
Brooklyn: Blech.
Bella: Wouldn't have been so bad if it wasn't for Twilight. But, I can't get over how egotistical it is to name your kid Beautiful.
Emerson: Okay on a boy, before girls took it over.
Addison: Ditto
Lola: Its ditzy, but a cute nickname.
Hope: Okay
Ireland: I dislike this more now that I met a girl named Holland and it really annoys me. Don't use country names. Its stupid.
Esme: I like this better when I thought it was Ez-mee, but then I learned it was more like Ez-may and it ruined it a little.
London: See Ireland.
Isla: Pretty.
Blaise/Blaze: Ugh, its so cheesy romance cover man.
Cruz: Trying to be cool.
Cullen: Okay before Twilight.
Jagger: Trying way too hard to be cool.
Brent: Bullying school jock or the sweet fat kid being bullied. I can't decide.
Wade: Yah, don't like it either.

Yay, someone else who hates Beatrice/Beatrix, Evelyn, and Felicity! They get so much love here and I don't get it.I also hate Cooper, Carson, Ryder, Silas, Logan, Gavin, Landon, Parker, Levi, Enoch, Enos, Jethro, Zion, Milo, and Hudson. I love Jacob, Joseph, Luca/Luka, and Jonas, and could take or leave Caleb.I love Josephine and Lucy for girls and don't mind Adeline. Winter is a GP but on an actual person, not so much. I hate or dislike the rest, especially Louise.
vote up1
I also hate Jocelyn (sounds like "jostlin'"), Evangeline, Scout (have no problem with it as a nickname), Winter, Serenity (SERENITY, NOW!!!), Beatrice, Hudson (so ugly), Jethro, Enos, Gavin, and Cooper.
vote up1
Joseph, Levi and Milo are adorable names! I did have a friend whose cat was named Milo and it seemed to fit - so maybe a better pet name for that.
Not a huge fan of the rest of your list, though Silas was a love for years. Beatrix, Winter, Evangeline, Jocelyn and Felicity are very nice names in my book (though Winter is a gp, along with Wisdom). My husband love Adeline. The rest of your girl list I would title "names I find annoying", with maybe Kendall, Scout, Riley and Harper making a "names that make me cringe" list.
vote up1
Of yours, I like Joseph, Winter, Evangeline, and Lucy. I dislike the rest, but dislike Silas, Enoch, Enos, Jethro, Jonas, Beatrice, Louise / Louisa, Scout, Harper, and Sadie more than the others.
