Some of the most popular names in Argentina (2014)

Yes, many Mapuche names are beautiful. There are not so many on the database here, but if you google "nombres de origen Mapuche", or "nombres mapuches" you may be able to take a look at longer lists. :)
I have never met a Ciro. There is two rock band frontmen in Argentina named Ciro, that became popular during the 90s. I think many people naming their kids Ciro might be fans of the bands that grew up listening to their music. But that's just my guess.
Lionel became really popular here in the past decade because of footballer Lionel Messi (pronounced Leeo-NEL)

Mia has been popular for a few years now. I don't think it's that strange. The pronunciation is straightforward and there are similar names that were used before like Pía and Lía. The word "mía" means "mine" which is a bit strange for a name, though. But it sounds pretty.
Eluney (Eh-Loo-NAY) is of Mapuche origin. It's a unisex name and it means "gift" or "heavenly gift". I just submitted it here because it wasn't on the database. There are a number of Mapuche names that sound good and have very beautiful meanings :)

Santino, Thiago, Isabella, Emma, Francesca, Catalina and Bianca are my favorites from the list. It is interesting that some of the names that are popular in the U.S.A. like Benjamin, Isabella, Mia, Emma, Sofia and Olivia are also popular over there.
There was a Ciro in one my classes. When he introduced himself, one girl thought he said his name was Zero and found it startling.

Ha, I'd never thought about the Zero thing :)
I think the world is full of Sofias, Olivias and Isabellas from lots of countries!

We don't have a list like the SSA one, but some cities publish these. So this is based on some of the most populous places, not the whole country. But I guess it's safe to say these names are popular in most provinces.
Except for maybe the first 10 on the lists I posted, I am not sure about the exact order.
I hope they start publishing these officially with numbers and all :)
