HelpPLEASE HELP!!!! lachlan because I love it, or Liam because we both like it
My husband and I have finally narrowed down what we’re naming our son in January. He finally got on bored with my FAVORITE name, Lachlan.
I love it because of its Celtic roots, it’s meaning, the way the name flows with our other two boys names, and it’s not popular at all being in the 600s, but also not unheard of.
Liam is a name that I definintley do like a lot. It also has Celtic roots and If I hear it on another kid I always think that it’s a nice name.
However, I work in childcare, so I hear kids names ALL the time. It’s hard for me to find a name that has no accociation already. I have never met anyone with the name Lachlan but I know lots of little Liam’s.
Liam is also an important family name for my husband. His papas name is William, and his great grandfathers name was Liam. He didn’t know his great grandfather but it means a lot to his granny to use it. And his papa basically was his only father figure and raised him.
I know one way or the other I’ll have regrets. If I go with liam, I’ll regret not using my favorite name that I really truly love the most. I’d regret literally using the NUMBER ONE name and having no uniqueness.
If I go with Lachlan, id regret wasting a great opportunity to honor people that really matter to my husband. Using family names is very important.
Additionally, I should say he’s had two boys from a previous marriage and he got to name both of them. However this is my first pregnancy and have never been able to pick out names before. Their names are Elijah Cole and Rylee James. (Not really names I would have picked but not bad).
The middle name we have chosen for either Lachlan or Liam is David. David is my fathers first name and also my husbands middle name.
Because I work in childcare and I really have heard it all, it honestly DOES matter to me that when I introduce him to people, it’s a name they haven’t heard on three other kids that day.
I am so stuck and I need help!!!! Every time I think I’ve made a decision something sways me the other way.
I also like that Lachlan has a nickname. Lock. Which I think is so cool I love that it has a nickname that is gona be so cool when he’s older if he likes it. Liam doesn’t have a good nickname like that.
I should also say that we HAVE considered just using all three names. Lachlan David Liam (one syllable last name). It doesn’t flow very well but it does just about solve our problem.
