I worked with a Ulysses who must have been a child once, so I can imagine it on a child. I love it.

I think Ulysses is a really cool name! Of course, there's fantastic associations in General Grant and Homer's Ulysses. It has a really great sound to it, very nice and gentle to say, and I love mythology names. At the same time though, there's the terrible meaning of "to hate". But I'm not sure if that Greek word can mean other things too? I'd have to look into that. I like it.

I love this name and would absolutely use it. I knew a Ulysses when I was in elementary school, so maybe that's why it feels usable to me. My only problem with it is the meaning. It just sounds so stately and charming though.

I think Ulysses is a great name with a lot of history! However, I do agree that it wouldn't really fit a child. I'm American, so the name is very strongly associated to Ulysses S. Grant. It also feels like an old name. It could make a good middle name, though. Using some of the combos you have listed, Arthur or Vincent Ulysses would sound good. A name like Brian or Bryant would also sound good with Ulysses as the middle name.
