I'd guess Ash-a, because of popular names like Ashley, Ashton, Asher.
But I'd have a nagging feeling that AH-sha is more correct.
I've never met an Asha.
I somewhat associate it (in addition to the names mentioned above) with Asherah and Aisha, both of which seem like they have more character to me.
It's also like Maya. Simple, complex/multicultural, popular sounding.
I don't think it's legit to say it means "ash tree", but one could say that. Like, Eartha is obviously connected to "earth" but not in a way that's "legit".

I really like Asherah and probably prefer it as a name on its own, but Asha seems "safer" for naming a real baby because it's so short and easy to spell.

ASH-a definitely, though it’s not super common here in Australia. Asher would probably be more common here for girls, though I only like the Asher spelling for boys personally. I don’t get a certain image in my head, of what an Asha looks like or acts like. I think the name could work for many different girls. I love the “life” and “wish, desire, Hope” meanings, they are beautiful. I don’t think “ash tree” works for it, it’s a different name.

I'm American and I've never actually heard of a girl named Asher! (They don't sound the same in my accent but I see what you mean).

I associate this name with Game of Thrones now, because the character of Asha Greyjoy was so impactful. I imagine someone strong-willed, possibly a bit bratty. There is something a bit empty about this name for me.

I'd say it's just as legitimate to say it means "ash tree with a feminine suffix" as well as "ash, with a feminine suffix" (which is what I think of - ashes) because that just makes sense in English.

Because of this, I read Asha as AH-shuh, long-A sound. It feels very Indian to me, and I can't imagine it on someone who isn't South Asian (though there is a Swahili usage of this name as well, apparently). I would legitimately be surprised, perhaps even shocked, to meet a White woman with this name.

I wouldn't be shocked to hear "AH-sha" as a white person's name, but "ASH-a" does seem purposely anglicized to me.

ASH-a. AH-sha sounds odd to me. I have heard this name pronounced like Asia before, so AY-zha, but I find that pronunciation odd and unintuitive for Asha.
I imagine a somewhat mysterious person with greyish or brown eyes and dark hair or dark blond hair. I could imagine a witch in a novel being named Asha (a young witch but not necessarily a good one).
Almost anything goes with it, I would say it should be longer and not end in -a.
It doesn't mean "ash tree" but the word "ash" is included so even though you can like its connection to the tree (through the sound) I don't think the actual meaning is in any way related to it.
