Horatio & Amalia
I've been thinking of these two names recently, what are your opinions?Horatio - with references such as Horatio Hornblower, Horatio from 'Hamlet' and Horatio Caine from the TV show 'CSI: Miami'. I'm really loving the sound of this name, so strong and masculine and regal like a storybook hero.Amalia - I really like Amelia for a girl but it is a bit popular. Amalia just seems so pretty like a name for a princess and it's definitely less popular and could still have a nickname like Amy which I love.
WDYTO these two and what combos immediately come to mind?
Thanks in advance,
Laurie :)

I like Horatio, but David Caruso's acting on CSI: Miami is enough to keep me from ever loving the name. I love Amalia though and would consider using it. It actually was the name or middle name of various royals. I'm not sure what to suggest for middle names for either of the names.

I knew an Amalia nicknamed Molly. I like it quite a lot. Amy is okay. I appreciate the boldness of Horatio, but it's not something I'd choose myself. Ray is an obvious nickname, but Hank would be pretty awesome.Combos:Amalia Frances
Amalia Beatrice
Amalia Florence
Amalia LucienneHoratio Aaron
Horatio Esteban
Horatio Pierce
Horatio Frederick

Molly is a very cute nn, I like it quite a bit!
I'm not fond of Hank as a nn but Ray is interesting, I'd be more likely to use Harry as a nn or just H.Thanks for your combo suggestions I love most of the names you suggested but really love Amalia Frances, Amalia Beatrice, Horatio Pierce, and Horatio Frederick. Thanks!

Horatio -- Love it. I tend to think "Horatio Nelson" first, but whatever the source it's a great name. I've also heard female decendants of Admiral Nelson have been named Horatia, which I find darling in the extreme. :-)Amalia -- Love it. Amalia has always been overshadowed by Amelia. It's nice to see this charming name from the past get some attention. Amy is a sweet nn. I've dabbled with the idea of Molly as a nn for Amalia, but I'm still on the fence about that.

I like Amalia much better than Amelia, which is one of my least favourite names!
Horatio is a strong, very masculine and different name.
