[Opinions] Claire
Someone suggested Clara to me the other day as a variation on Bertha, since the meaning is the same. Clara is just okay to me, but I've really grown on Claire. What do you think? What are some things you'd associate with a girl named Claire? Any combos?

It's a little plain, but there's nothing wrong with it. You could do a hell of a lot worse, so you can't go wrong with Claire!

I knew a Claire once. She was the lead role in Pirates of Pinzance, Beauty and the Beast, and Little Women. She was a beautiful girl and super nice. She was also very outgoing and good at everything she did. When I hear Claire, that's what I think of.

I think Claire is a nice name, but I have some not so great associations with it. They weren't terrible, but just enough to make me not like the name. Essentially, it was just this really annoying girl in elementary school who wanted to be my best friend, even though I honestly didn't like her that much. Therefore, I associate Claire with a wannabe lol. Claire Julianne is the first combo that came to mind for me.

Well, since you asked "What are some things you'd associate with a girl named Claire?", I'll tell you. The name Claire has been totally ruined for my sisters and me, because one of my sisters had a friend in high school named Claire. This poor girl was cursed with the homeliest face you can imagine. She was just so ugly. She wasn't overweight or anything like that. She always tried to do her hair in a pretty fashion. But her face...the poor girl.
But it wasn't just that. We realized that no one chooses their face, and wouldn't have held that against her. She was also just...weird. Like every year, she'd choose a female teacher to crush on and obsess over. It was just...weird. She'd spy on the teacher, sort of, if she could watch the teacher going on about her business through a window, she'd do that. One year, it was the school nurse she obsessed over, and the nurse finally told her that it was unhealthy and she should try harder to find friends her own age, and do you know two or three years later Claire was still talking about that! Just..eww. The only reason my sister was friends with her was that she really just attached herself to my sister, and my sister felt sorry for her. Also, she liked my sister so much, and my sister says that when someone likes you that much, it's hard not to like them back at least a little.
But yeah, my sisters and I have mentioned that she totally ruined the name Claire for us.
On the other hand, I had a friend who had an utterly adorable little girl named Claire. So that rehabilitated it a little in my eyes. Still, I could never use it.

Aw. I'm sorry you have such a bad association with the name. My best friend from preschool through first grade (with whom I am still in touch!) is named Clare, and one of my favorite cousins is named Claire, although she calls herself Cookie. Association isn't really an issue for me. Still... I'm sorry about that. and I totally understand.

Oh yeah, I know you certainly can't be expected to carry my bad associations, or anything like that. And objectively, I can agree that Claire is a pretty name, although I don't think it would be one of my favorites even if I hadn't known that Claire. I just posted that because...I don't know, I guess I thought it was semi-interesting. But I hope I didn't come off like, "I knew a weird Claire, so you shouldn't use this name!"

haha, no, but I hear you and definitely understand. I'd share my horror stories if someone asked about the names Brekka, Kori, Victoria, Matthew, or Luke.

Claire is one of my absolute favourite names - it brings to mind someone who's honest, hard-working, loyal and loving. I love this spelling, and the fact that it means 'bright' or 'light' in French.
I have Claire as an mn with Matilda in my combo list, but here are some with Claire as the fn:
Claire Cassandra
Claire Francesca
Claire Eloise
Claire Emmeline
Claire Josephine
Claire Rosetta
Claire Natalia
Claire Matilda

ThanksI love Claire Eloise and Clare Natalia... that gave me the ideas for Claire Eliane and Clare Natania. I like the meaning of Natania better than that of Natalia, so that's my only reason for that. I would be all over Claire Eloise, but I have bad associations with that name.Matilda Claire is adorable! I know a Matilda Clarice and I think her parents should have kept it as simple as you do.
