[Opinions] Spanish vs. Trendy Conflict... talked to the hubby, and the results are:
FOR THOSE JUST TUNING IN, this might help... a link to a previous post
http://www.behindthename.com/bb/arcview.php?id=356803&board=babyHe pretty much laughed at all the boys' names I had picked, which bites, because I really like Diego! He said there are a MILLION Diego's in Spanish-speaking countries, and he doesn't want to use it. I got rolling laughter after mentioning Tristan, Donato, and Salomon... apparently in Honduras, they are the equvalence of currently unpopular names in America, such as Percy, Earl, and Cecil.Names he mentioned that I laughed at (not to offend, but simply not my taste) were Ricardo, Roberto, Dennis, and Mario. WE BOTH LIKE..... MATEO! Yay! We agreed on something! My sweety's name is Isai (Spanish for Isaiah), so we'd name a boy Mateo Isaiah, or Isaiah Mateo... or my choice, Mateo Aidan Isaiah. Which sounds best?As for girls, we had a lot more options. He liked Andrea (too many of 'em for my taste) Helen (my Grandma's name, but no thanks!) Blanca (eh...)and Lupita (WHAT??). I liked Catalina Spencer, but he despises Catalina for some weird reason. We BOTH liked Valencia, Victoria, Lucia, Lidia, and Nadia. He'd like to fit Maria in the name somewhere for his mother, but I'm not so much seeing that working out. I like Valencia Delaney, Delaney Victoria, Lidia Spencer (or Lydia?), Lucia-Kate Valentina, Nadia-Paige Maria (???). I guess I need some help!DON'T FORGET-- LN is SANTOS! :) I will also create some poles after I get feedback. Thanks!

Hey, Noelle, did you mention Delaina? Did Isai laugh at that one, too? :o) I like Mateo Aidan Isaiah, although something about the flow bothers me...hmm. I think I like Aidan Isaiah Mateo better for some reason. Oh, well. :o) I also prefer the Italian Bianca to the Spanish Blanca, but that's just my opinion, lol. :o) I love Valencia Delaney! That's gorgeous. ;o) You could even hyphenate the two & make Valencia - Delaney Spencer, although I'm not sure if you want Spencer right next to Santos. I also really like Nadia - Paige Maria. Some more random combos to mess with your minds, lol:Araceli - Dakota Maria
Viviana - Peyton Leonor
Esperanza - Corrigan Yelena
Lidia - Madison OfeliaErnesto - Braley Juan (Braley is a family name in our area. It rhymes with Bailey...thought I'd throw in out for consideration; no worries if you hate it!)
Hector - Kendall Macario
Joaquin - Devlin Ricardo
Vasco - Riley Diego (I thought Vasco sounded cool, plus it reminds me of Vasco da Gama, fearless explorer!)Good luck!

Mateo is a wonderful name! I like Mateo Isaiah or Mateo Aidan Isaiah the best. And for a girl I like Lucia & Lidia the best. Perhaps you can use Maria as her second middle name, and use something else as the first middle name. Have you considered honoring yourself?

It keeps coming back to those two names... Lidia, and Lucia! Everyone seems to be giving overwhelming feedback on those two. I'll put them on a poll, perhaps. I really like someone's idea of Lidia Spencer Maria, but even more, I like Lidia Spencer-Marie! Someone suggested Lucia Maria, but it sorta rhymes and reminds me of Amelia Bedilia lol...

Mateo & LuciaWell that's good about Mateo! Mateo Isaiah is really cute and so is Matteo Aidan Isaiah! :)Mateo Isaiah Santos, Mateo Aidan Isaiah Santos.I still like Lucia & Lidia very much. What about Lucia Maria Santos or Lidia Maria Santos? I'm really leaning toward Lucia on this one but in general I love the name Lidia but spelled Lydia! :)For some reason I keep wanting to add another T in Mateo and make it Matteo, I don't know why, maybe you should consider that spelling too! :)

Matteo is the Italian spelling, and Mateo is the Spanish form. I atually like the double-t better, but for obvious reasons, we'll stick with Mateo.I really like Lucia. He's not nearly as wild about Lucia as he is about Lidia, but I'm equally in love with both names.I'm glad to see that you like "Mateo Aidan Isaiah" because I've been getting a lot of negative feedback about throwing Aidan in there-- but then again, you read the other post, so you know my whole story! Thanks for your comments, Ladybug! :)

Mateo Santos is a character on amcI love the name Mateo Santos. Do you watch the Soap Opera All My Children? Matio Santos is Kelly Ripa's husband both on and off the show. Mark Consuelos is his real name. Some members of the Santos family include:
Mateo Santos married to Hallie Santos, son Enzo
Rosa Santos married to Hernando I think, Isabella Santos too
Maria Santos married to Edmund, Maddie and Sam children
Julia Santos married to Noah
There is another sister, I need to look up her nameIsaiah seems Jewish sounding and Aidan just doesn't go, plus it is way overused and not very masculine anymore since people decided to ruin it and use it on girls. You have a beautiful last name, go with it. I love Mateo Robert Santos and Carolina Maria Santos. I like Francesca too.

lol... yes I am aware of that. It's been quite a long time (years!) since I've watched All My Children, but I was afraid people would notice that! Check out this link of a previous post...http://www.behindthename.com/bb/arcview.php?id=357453&board=baby

oh, sorry. I don't think it is a big deal at all, especially since most of the santos family is off the show, esp Mateo, never to return. I think the name is gorgeous. I hope you use it.
The other sister is Anita Santos.

That's right! Anita... I was racking my brain lol! Boy it's been awhile... I had no CLUE Mark Consuelos was off the show! Thanks for the update!

Um... I like Mateo as the first name for a boy. I don't think Aiden fits. What about Mateo Adrian Isaiah. I do like that. As for girls, I love Lucia and I think Lucia Maria is beautiful. ~Lisa~

I do like Lucia, but like I told someone else, he's not nearly as wild about Lucia as he is about Lidia. I really think both names are beautiful. I'd do Lucia Maria, but I really, really, super-duper want a touch of my heritage in there too! Lucia Maria Santos sounds completely Spanish, and I want her other roots to be reflected in her name as well. I am American with a European background... mostly French and Irish. If you think of any other names I could stick in the middle, please let me know! :) I love Irish and English surnames.

Well I do like french names :) And I think they might combine nicely with the Spanish names. I just don't get a good feeling with the irish names and spanish names together. It could be just me?What about:Lucia Genevieve Maria
Lucia Maria Juliette
Lucia Adele Maria
Lucia Aline Maria (Aline is pro. Ah-Lyn and is a varient of Eileen, which is Irish!!, this could be good one, honoring everything)
Lucia Eloise Maria
Lucia Eve Maria
Lucia Gabrielle Maria
Lucia Isabel Maria
Lucia Maria Odette
Lucia Reine Maria
Lucia Maria VianneMy favorite is Lucia Aline Maria :)

I like Genevieve (zhahn-vee-ehv)I was a French minor, so I'm glad I'd be able to pronounce it :) Although, Genevieve sounds horrible in Spanish! In fact, some lady on a Spanish soap opera has that name, and the first time my husband heard it, he laughed for five minutes straight! I think the French version is beautiful.I REALLY like Gabrielle and Isabelle. My favorite French names were always Dominique, Celine, Adrienne, and pretty much anything ending in "elle" My sisters' names all end in "elle" and my name is Noelle :)

I like Mateo & Aidan, but... one is very Spanish and one is very Irish, so they don't really go together to me. Mateo Isaiah works well though. What about using Marie after her instead? I really like Victoria Marie, nn Tori! or Lucia Marie, nn Lucie, maybe?

It so difficult to mesh my heritage/taste with my husband's nationality to come up with a name we both like. I guess I'm willing to deal with the fact that they don't match in a "nationality" manner of speaking, as long as syllables and emphases sound ok together.Yes, if I name her Victoria, nn will definitely be Tory :)
I also thought about Marie, as it is one of my mn's and also one of my mom's mn's (we have two mn's in my family)
I do want something to set the name apart though... so if I used Victoria, the middle name would have to be something that not many other people have...
I really like Mateo Isaiah! It's just a question of whether I'll be able to part with my favorite name, Aidan! lol

Butting in :o)My DD's name is Victoria, nn Tori. Noooo, you can't use Tori as a nn, lol! :oD Here we thought we were being different by not using Vicki. There is another Victoria we know (nn, Tori) who even shares the same birthday! Thank God we gave them different mns, lol. :o) When they're together, they go by Tori-Kate (Victoria Kathleen, my DD) & Tori Beth (Victoria Elizabeth, her friend). Note, even though DD's name isn't actually hyphenated, I just have to throw in a hyphen when I use her nn, lol!"I can't say I was ever lost, but I was bewildered once for three days." -Daniel Boone, American explorer

I like Mateo Isaiah and Victoria. If hubby dislikes Catalina (I love it too!), would he like Carolina? Likewise, wdyt of Elena to honor Grandma Helen?
vote up1
I like Elena, and I'm sure you're partial to it as well ;) We hosted a Russian foreign exchange student whose name was Elena, but pronounced "Yelena" ... I think it's exotic, and I'll run it by him tonight. As for Carolina, we live in NC, so i seriously doubt he'd go for it... I really couldn't BELIEVE he didn't like Catalina! I was floored...

What about Lidia Spencer Maria? It's a bit long, but I think it sounds wonderful.Mateo Isaiah Aidan would be my choice for a boy.Array

LOOOOOOOOOVVVVVE Lidia Spencer Maria... it's definitely going to the polls!!! I may break down and hyphenate Spencer-Maria OR if I can get my husbands approval, make it Lidia Spencer-Marie!

Nooo...stick with Maria, it's a far more gorgeous name. ;-)
