Alternate/Random Top 20
Just a "group" of names I've been thinking about lately - those that basically, you like seeing on other people's kids - Those you wouldn't mind using yourself (or even ON yourself) but that would definitely fall outside of your current top 20 or 30 (some of these aren't even on my PNL but I'm trying to think more outside of my comfort zone here)After some deliberation... these are what I came up with... WDYT?Melanie
Cecily
Bedelia
Simone
Margot
Nina
Parisa
Saskia
Aviva
Clarity
Johanna
Liana
Linnet
Matea
Annette
Nadine
Rhiannon

Brendan
Calvin

Melanie - Can't love it for some reason... maybe it's a little too smooth or something? But there's nothing wrong with it, and I can appreciate it in a sort of.... oversmooth but sturdy way
Cecily - Good. Sorta forces you to be delicate. There's nothing you can really emphasize about this name - if you bring out its most defining elements, it just becomes more straw-y and laid back. It's also fashionable in a boring way. But it's pretty and I like the entire Cecil- family
Bedelia - I only see this in connection to Amelia Bedila
Simone - Hate it, somehow. Used to love it, now absolutely hate it. Also I saw a really dreadful performance by Simone Dinnerstein, this pianist that Oprah likes because she's a woman. She pronounced it Simona, which, well, annoyed me, and put me off of both pronunciations.
Margot - I like Margo better, but I definitely like it. A nice modernly fashionable thing, Margaret meets Harlow. I would happily nickname a Margaret "Margo." I also like Marlow in this way, I knew a quirky Marlowe about my age (female). I do not, however, like Marley as a modern take on Margaret.
Nina - Very good and I'd love to meet one.
Parisa - I know a Parisa who's a total brat. Or was when my sister was friends with her stepsisters. She's probably normal now. Umm but yeah it's pretty, just really tied to her in my mind
Saskia - One of those names I don't know of outside of BTN. It's cool. Very... I dunno, skirt-swishy. It's a cool combination of, like, maracas and Germanicity.

Aveline - corny, but carries pretty medieval-rennaisance connotations
Beatrix - boring. Off the boards, Beatrix!
Indira - pretty, but does anyone ever use it or do they just talk about it?
Juno - I wish that dam movie had never come out!
Octavia - Cool. Takes guts. I know a girl whose sister is named Octavia, and whose other sister is Ontario, and who is called Olympia. None of them have any problems with it, except their last name starts with K, so when they go to initial something they write "OK" and it looks kinda dumb
Ottilie - Can't get into it. Why not? Don't know. I think if I met one it would be more effective
Penelope - OK, boring
Petra - Cool. Has grown on me very, very slowly, which I'm glad for. I wish I knew one!
Yara - Kinda cool, a little unstimulating
Yeva - Also kinda cool. Yee is an awkward sound though.Bennett - OK, boring
Hadrian - Kinda cool. Can seem very new though
Leander - OFF THE GD BOARDS, LEANDER. Ffs. Someone use this name already so we can stop talking about it.
Lorcan - Unbearably corny.
Otto - Pretty cool.
Quaid - I'd loooove to see this used. Wasn't some philosopher named this?
Titus - hah I know a Titus! It's kind of cool in real life.
Wilburn - if you use it now it'll be fashionable in... 25 years and then he'll have a fashionable name for a long time.

Melanie - I've always liked Melanie, since I was a little girl, but the nn Mel puts me off ever seriously considering it. Plus I once met a Melanie who was a complete and utter b****Cecily - I like Cecily on somebody else's child
Bedelia - nms
Simone - dislike due to somebody I once knew
Margot - not my style, it just doesn't sound young
Nina - always been a fan of Nina. I imagine her to be fiesty
Parisa - not my style, but much better than Paris
Saskia - great name that isn't used enough
Aviva - nms
Clarity - I like it, but I do love word names
Johanna - beautiful, but i slightly prefer Joanna
Liana - nms
Linnet - nice
Matea - I kind of like it
Annette - nms
Nadine - pretty
Rhiannon - nice
Celeste - classy
Colette - nms
Corinne - I like Corey as a nnRhys - I like it, but it's seen as very working class here
Murray - i think of Andy Murray
Asher - nice, cool edge to it
Brendan - overused and dull
Calvin - i like it
Cyrus - not my style. I always think it looks like a typo of Cyprus
Dominic - nice

I would mind if somebody I know picked Linnet, because I want it for my own daughter. From this list I like Aviva and Clarity the second best.

Melanie - a favorite of mine
Margot - also on my own long list
Liana - looks boring on paper but it's actually fabulous
Celeste - I'm not into the repeated S sounds, but I think it's a strong name, sort of the way Dominique is strongCyrus - I like it. It's a little goofy, in a good way. Too bad about Miley.
Dominic - cool name.
Theron - is nifty. Not really my style but likeable.
Merrick - personal favorite.
Rafe - has a scruffy masculine appeal - it's on my long list too.Smallish signals on my radar lately:Priscilla
Stephanie
Diamond
DevonForest
Tom (for Thomas)
Raoul
Zeno

That's exactly how I feel about Liana. It sort of blends in with a lot of other popular names, but is actually very elegant and naturey I considered putting Dominique on the list, but I can actually see myself using it so opted for something else. Though, I could realisticly see myself using Margot and Melanie so they probably shouldn't be on the list either :)The Miley association is what puts me off of Cyrus also.
Priscilla - I really like though it's almost a too lacy
Stephanie - hate
Diamond - hate
Devon - love. I go back and forth in whether I prefer it spelled Devon or Devin, more.Forest - I sort of like it but only because it's the name of the street I live on. Other than that I really don't like the "for" sound
Thomas - I like Thomas in full, but only a little. I don't really like Tom or Tommy... they're all either too young or old sounding
Raoul - never gave it much thought before. I think I like it
Zeno - I like it but it makes me think of that acne-fighting device, the "Zeno hotspot"

I love Diamond. In my uni cafeteria there was this really beautiful clerk whose nametag said Diamond. I wanted to write songs to her.
I love Tom for Thomas too. Well, actually, I dunno. It can fall sort of flat on a lame person. But on an awesome person, what a perfect name!Zeno's cool. I have a character named Scotland Parker Zeno. I assembled his name from the bottom of some SSA list. He's a reporter and goes by Scot Zeno. Pretty lame!
