These are all fine names. Classic real names, not trendy contrived names. I usually come here to flame people who like crappy names, but these are great. Stay classy!

Anne or Susannah "Annie"— I love the nickname "Annie", though I think of some of my favorite books from childhood "The Magic Tree House" series whenever I hear the name. I definitely like Anne better than Susannah, a name that sounds quite snobby and southern in my opinion.Louisa— I don't like or dislike the name, but there are a lot of worse names out there.Eliza— I like it on it's own and as a diminutive of Elizabeth, but it's not a favorite of mine.Sally or Sarah "Sally"— I like Sarah, but I think of Sally as old-fashioned.Virginia— Considering it's a state I would never use it, but I like Ginny as a nickname.Alfred— Surprisingly, I quite like this name. I like the adorable nickname "Alfie" as well.ArthurArthur is a family name for me, and I like the King Arthur association, but I dislike the nickname "Art".EdwinEdwin is nice, but I prefer Edmund.William— I like it on it's own, and the nicknames "Will", "Willie", "Bill", and "Liam" are nice. For some reason the nickname "Billy" irks me.JamesJames is a personal favorite, but I dislike all the inevitable nicknames, so I would probably never use it.

Anne or Susannah "Annie" - I like them both, though I don't enjoy Annie!
Louisa - prefer Eloise and then Louise.
Eliza - fine as a nn, but not as a stand-alone
Sally or Sarah "Sally" - I like Sally a lot; if I had to change my name I'd give it serious thought. But I find Sarah very dull and unlovable.
Virginia - nah. Don't like gin, and virginity is quite a life sentence in today's world.Alfred - much prefer either Frederick or Albert; heartily deplore Alfie and Alf.
Arthur - a lot to live up to; better as a mn.
Edwin - I knew a really dishy one once, but there are better names out there.
William - right at the top of every known list!
James - a position shared by James.

Anne or Susannah ("Annie") -- I like the sweetness of Annie but prefer the gorgeous Susannah overall. Susannah seems happy while Annie seems really friendly to me. Re: Anne, I prefer Anna, however, the e on the end is heaps better than Ann.Louisa -- I love Louisa, period. My only pauses are the potential nns Weezie and Weezer (shudder!).Eliza -- I don't care for this much. It comes across to me as both pompous and hillbillyish (is that a word?) at the same time. I also don't care for nns on the bc.Sally or Sarah ("Sally") -- While nice, Sarah is dull due to overuse. Sally as a stand alone isn't enough for me yet it's much better than Sarah.Virginia -- I like the way it looks and sounds yet I have reservations here because of the obvious 'virgin' association and because I tend to think 'vagina' whenever I read Virginia. I hope it's just me. Anyway, I love the nn Ginny.Alfred -- Sorry, I hate it. It's dreary and dull and I'm wracking my brain with something positive to contribute and I just can't this AM.Arthur -- I really like Arthur which is strange because it's very similar to Alfred yet Arthur is working for me. Perhaps it's the King Arthur association or the cool nn Art. I don't know. Best not to question it.

Anne- much prefer Anne to Susannah, underused classic!
Louisa- another underused classic, and create literary references, my favorite on your list
Eliza- not a huge fan of the sound, but I do think it's strong
Sally (or Sarah "Sally" - which do you like more?- that's a tough one, I'd stick with sally if that's what you'd call her, and I like it!
Virginia- not a huge fan of the sound, and I dislike GinnyAlfred- love!
Arthur- another great one, possibly getting trendy though
Edwin- love, 2nd favorite after Alfred on your list, and they would make great brothers
William- popular of course, but wonderful name
James- again I think it's a flawless nameWonderful lists! Anne, Louisa, Alfred, and Edwin are my favorites!

Anne or Susannah "Annie" I much prefer Susannah, it's more interesting. I quite like it, it's warm and fuzzy
Louisa- I hate Louise and so pretty much hate Louisa too. i can't give you a good reason though other than the 'wees' sound bothers me.
Eliza- pretty, not the most exciting thing in the world though
Sally- I don't like Sally, it just seems like the name for a doll not a human to me. And while Sarah is okay, it's tired and Sally as a nickname seems weird to me since they don't sound the same and Sally isn't exactly a shortened version.
Virginia- One of me least favourite names of all time (Top 5 I'd say). There are so many things wrong with the name. It has the word virgin in it and young children mistaken it for the word vagina, which I've seen happen in real life.Alfred- Adorable in a frumpy kinda way. I like the nn Alfie
Arthur- similar in style to Alfred but better I think because it's more vowelly which makes it less frumpy. It sounds better with an American accent than with mine though
Edwin- meh
William- nice enough, very popular here though. It's a good solid name, but it wouldn't make me look twice
James- I really like this despite it's popularity. It's a bit tired but such a good name still.

I love Susannah and have for a long time. I also really like Annie, and if I'm being honest, I find Anne rather dull. I like Susannah "Annie", that's cute.I adore Eliza, am fond of Louisa, and surprisingly very much like Virginia (surprising because it's not really my kind of name). Sarah and Sally are both meh, but if I had to pick one, Sally at least has the potential to be sassy in a counterculture sort of way, and has a fun retro flip to it.Alfred, Arthur and Edwin are all ace. James and William are so classy they barely register for me. They are great "under the radar" names.

Anne or Susannah "Annie" (which do you like more?) - Susannah is cool enough. Way better than Susan. Anne and Annie are so entirely boring I can't like them at all.Louisa - Got real fondness for this name. I like Louise just a little bit better thoughEliza - Love it ^_^Sally (or Sarah "Sally" - which do you like more?) - I don't really like either. Sally is too Enid Blyton and Sarah is kind of meh. I like Suri best. And Sara said SAH-ra.Virginia - no no no I can't bear this name. I really can't. It's right up right at the very top of awful names.Alfred - makes me grin cos it sounds like an old farmerArthur - the Once and Future King! I can never get over that my brother had an Arthur, Uther, Morgan (girl) and Merlin all in his class at primary school. Seriously!! Edwin - ohh I like it. It sounds very EnglishWilliam - this is a very safe name. You can kind of take William anywhere and he'll never look out of place
James - ditto William :)

Ah, you have such amazing taste in names :)I prefer Susannah nn Annie to Anne. Susannah is so beautiful and Annie is a really sweet and unexpected nickname - although I do know a 24 year old Susanna who goes by Ani. I prefer Susie though. Louisa is also beautiful. My maternal great-great-grandmother was called Louisa, and it's a family name on my dad's side too. I like the fact that it's familiar, and I'd probably call it a classic, but it's not very popular - especially not in the US.Eliza was one of my favourites until my SO said it sounds like 'Here lies a..' in a Cockney accent, which put me off a bit lol. I do still like it though.I love Sarah. I know a lot of people think it's plain and boring but I think it has a beautiful sound, and it's timeless. I don't like Sally though. Virginia is pretty. I don't think it would work here because of the 'virgin' thing, and it's never really been popular in the UK, but in the US I think it would be a really nice name.I like Alfred but the potential nickname Alfie puts me off. Fred or Freddie might be good.Arthur I like a lot, but it's getting very popular here. It's a great name though.I really like Edwin, it's another name from my family tree. It's probably my favourite of all the Ed- names.William is great - can't go wrong with it. Don't like Liam as a potential nn though.James is one of the best boys names there is. It would be near the top of my own list if SO's sister hadn't just married a James.Other than Annie for Susannah, and maybe Sally for Sarah, would you use any nicknames for the names listed? :)

I have nothing bad to say about the boys names, except Edwin which I hate. It's popular here (but spelled Edvin) but spelled Edwin, and in a English speaking country, all I can see is an old dying guy. And he's not dying in a car crash -- he's dying of old age. So, no. Not for kids. Not yet. I love your other boys choices though. Maybe Isaac and Edward would fit in?As for the girls...I find them less classic and more dated than the boys. I do like Louisa and Eliza though. Virginia will always be "vagina" in my head, and Sally will be an old dated nickname. And Sarah nn Sally doesn't really work in my mind. I don't know what to say about Susannah. I don't really like it, but I don't have any reason why. My favorite nickname for it is Anna though.

I prefer Susannah, because Anne is just so boring to me. The nn "Annie" sounds like it belongs on either a baby, or an elderly woman. It doesn't sound right on anyone between the ages of 2-80. Actually, even on a baby it sounds terribly dated. Louisa is okay, although I think I prefer Louise because it's less fuss. And I think they both work better as middle names. I don't like Eliza, and I think that has everything to do with the fact that I loathe the name Elizabeth. I don't like Sarah or Sally, and I personally think that Sally as a nn for Sarah is ridiculous. I know it's a legitimate nn but it doesn't seem like one to me. They're two completely different names as far as I'm concerned. I'd say go with Sarah (I like Sara better) and get rid of Sally all together. I kind of like Virginia, though I'm not sure why. The word 'virgin' turns me off of a bit, but I do think it has a nice sound. It's pretty, but strong. Unique, but not obscure.
Alfred is almost as bad as Anne/Annie. Boring and very dated. I also think the nn "Alfie" is silly, though I know you didn't mention it. Arthur makes me think of the aardvark (was it an aardvark - the cartoon?). I can't take it seriously as a child's name for this reason. I like Edwin. It's cute on a kid, kind of handsome on a man. I also seem to have a thing for win/wen names (I love so many Welsh names). I also like Edward, but the 'ward' is harsh as part of a first name so Edwin is kind of perfect. It's a softer version of Edward.

I like Susannah. Anne seems incomplete. "An" what? I like Anna more than either. Susannah with an H looks a tad overbaked to me ... I like it more with no H. I get a childish impression from Annie. It's like Ellie or Emmy or Timmy or Joey.Louisa I dislike unless it's pronounced lew-ISS-a, which it's not. Stressed wee sound disagrees with me. I think it's a decent name though, nothing else wrong with it.Eliza is nifty on paper - maybe a little slick or prissy in real lifeSally, just Sally, is nice, I like it. Sarah is nice also. Sarah nn Sally is artificial IMO.Virginia is a name I really like. I would hesitate a little bit to use it for the same reason I would hesitate to use Peter. But there are great nicknames, and Virginia is assertively unmodern in a way that really appeals to me.Alfred feels standard to me, like Richard. I fear the horrible nns Alf and Alfie enough to want to pass on Alfred. Fred is alright but a little unnaturalArthur I can imagine being a nice dignified name, but it also seems to me like "the" name for a nerdy character that has no personality and gets picked on. I don't really care for it or its sounds.Edwin is kinda cool! I like it.William is maybe the third most generic and forgettable name in my experience. I don't like the way the sounds get sort of extruded like pasta rather than articulated. It's not bad of course, just nms.James is so tweedy. It's a nice name, just nms

Anne/Susannah/Annie: I love Susannah because it's an old west sort of name. I'm not all that crazy about Anne/Annie, but they are cute in their own way.
Louisa: I prefer Louise.
Eliza: This is one of those names I want to like, but can't. It seems mousy and insecure to me.
Sally/Sarah: I don't think it needs Sarah. As you can probably guess, I am biased. I think it's adorable.
Virginia: Gross, moist name. Do not like.Alfred: Batman's butler!
Arthur: Cool. Needs a comeback.
Edwin: Eh...it's okay, I guess. Not my favorite of the Ed names.
William: Nice and royal, but I would call him Will. It's a good ol' standby.
James: Sweet. I love it.

Anne or Susannah "Annie" (which do you like more?) I guess Susannah, just because it's more interesting. Anne is nice, but mainly for a middle name. Suzanne I like much better than Susannah, which seems both hillbily and posh. Annie seems a terrible way of knocking Susannah into downmarket territory.
Louisa: Don't like, too stiff and Victorian. Louise is cute.
Eliza: Servant name.
Sally (or Sarah "Sally" - which do you like more?) Sally is cute in a middle-aged cheerful kind of way. Sarah is so boring and pasty and vapid not even Sally can save it. Just name her Sally and skip the messy middle step.
Virginia: It's got a minimum level of attractiveness that saves it from being a completely grandma name.Alfred: Prissy, stuffy, ugly.
Arthur: Ditto, with the added drawback that it seems to be all the rage in certain narrow hipster circles.
Edwin: One of the worst of the ed names.
William: Can't go wrong.
James: Also can't go wrong. Unlike William, James works quite well without a nn.

Suzanne is growing on me. I just hate Suzie!Edwin isn't my fave really, but it's after my dad. Poor guy gets called Edwina an awful lot though :)
vote up1
Suzanne! You don't need Suzie, you can go straight to Sue. Suzanne called Sue. That was the name of my supervisor 15 years ago. She was Sue professionally, and only the most familiar people would ever call her Suzanne. Nobody would have called her Suzie - they'd sound stupid. She made a great impression on me, a very energetic and shrewd and funny person, so I really like the name.

I like both Susannah or Anne with the nickname Annie. Although, I guess Susannah is a little more special. I love Louisa and Eliza. Sarah is a bit too common for me and I'm not a huge fan of Sally. I really can't get over the word virgin in Virginia.Alfred and Edwin are a little too old-fashioned for me. I like Arthur, but it is becoming quite popular. My little brother's name is William, so I'm a bit biased towards that one. James is nice, but once again quite common.I think my favourites out of your favourites are Arthur and Louisa.
