Re: Names I dislike
I happen to like all of these names. None are really my favorite, but I can find something positive in each. Paul - of the "classic" or "traditional" names, this have been one of my top. I like how it is simple yet complete and has a softer soudn while still being pretty masculine. But, this may be based on the fact that Paulina is one of my very favorite names. Gavin - A soft boys name with a v, what is not to like? If this hadn't be re-surged in the 90s, I would give it a chance. It's a bit ho-hum boring to me, but only because I know so many IRL. Brian - prefer Ryan, but Brian is my cousins name, so I am fond of it. However, I can see how it would be the lamest of the bunch. Adrian - Oh come now! Adrian is so cool! It's like Julius, Vivian and Whitney... totally a sophistocated girly man-name. I just think that people (I have known) with these names end up classy ppl. Ethan - This was my favorite name when I was 10years old. I LOVED the "th" sound in anything. Today, I would prefer something like Edan or Ash to Ethan... but I still think that it is a strong name. Liam - Ok, yeah.. I am not really a fan of this. It seems incomplete for me... and a lot of people use it as a "new" nickname for William... which brings the strength of William down to me. Olive - It cutesy yes... but I like it better than Olivia. I think that it is one of teh more decent food names, which is something. I happen to adore noun-names... so I am not the one to critque them if you want popular opinion. Laura - Agreed that it is far more boring than Lauren... and incredibly so compared to Laurel... but even I have to admit that it's popular because the sound is so appealing and gentle. Alice - The pop culture history of this name alone makes it spunky. I cannot diss. Lisa - Eh... I can agree that this isn't the best. But, I used to be obsessed with the name Liesel / Liesl which is so similar that my brain sees this name and sighs. It's simple, recognizable, so easy to spell and matches almost any middle or surname that you have to give it merit, even if just as a filler name. Amber - OK, if there werent so many nasy girls in my town with this name, I would adore it. I sounds just lovely and the color is very pretty. I feel the same way about Crystal. Too appropriated by a certain subculture to be personally usable, but inherantly pretty just the same. Tabitha - Tabby no, Tabitha... yes. It has old-school charm and 90's nostalgia. Plus... lends to the biblical references and the nickname Bitha. Blythe - Yes... a bit too simple and boring. But, I cannot justify that opinion because I love the similar (albeit masculine) Blaise, which is quite similar. Aubrey - I prefer this on girls for some reason, and find it charming and cute. Robin/Robyn - Only Robin... and I think it's a stellar name... along with Kestrel and Dove. Feel free to disagree, you are not alone.
