Using Zoe
So I was thinking about middle names again and i've come back to Zoe.. Long story short:
* My grandparents had two daughters: Jacqueline (mum) & Lisa, they moved then to Australia and had another child, a boy named Guy. My grandmother was hoping for a third daughter to name Zoe.* The whole time my mother (Jacqueline) was pregnant with me I was going to be called Zoe and was referred to as Zoe (I think mainly because of my grandmothers influence). When I was born my dad decided that Zoe didn't suit me and named me Rebecca Simone (obviously mum liked it because they went with it).* Gran was disappointed, and has suggested the name Zoe for every baby born since then. Then my uncle Guy's wife was pregnant with Quads (1 boy, 3 girls) and before they were born they named the girls Emma, Zoe & Sophie. The three girls did not survive and my cousin Jackson was the only survivor.
I'm thinking about using Zoe as a middle name because of its significance in my family, for my mum, grandmother and aunt. Would it be strange for a child so share the same name as a deceased cousin? I would obviously ask my aunt if she minded etc. Also what other middle name would you pair with it??Our top 2 girls names are Daphne & TheodoraSo:
Daphne Zoe ________ (Arnold) or Daphne Zoe _____ Arnold
Theodora Zoe ______ (Arnold) or Theodora Zoe ______ ArnoldI'd love some suggestions! We love really old fashioned, not common names.

I think it would be sweet to use Zoe after reading that.

I love Zoe as a middle name, and for a while it was on my Matilda __ list.Personally, I like Zoe with longer names, like your Theodora. I think Theodora Zoe sounds balances in a way that Daphne Zoe does not. Man, I do love Daphne, though.Daphne Zoe Matilda Arnold
Daphne Zoe Rowena Arnold
Daphne Zoe Carolina Arnold
Daphne Zoe Rosamund Arnold
Daphne Zoe Francesca ArnoldTheodora Zoe Camille Arnold
Theodora Zoe Berenice Arnold
Theodora Zoe Beatrix Arnold

I like neither Daphne nor Theodora with Zoe, but Theodora Zoe flows better than Daphne Zoe. I don't think it matters that much if it's a tad clunky, though, if Daphne and Zoe are the names you like and want to use.Honestly, if I were you I would not want to use Zoe, because if I were your daughter I would not want to have inherited Zoe after all that stuff. It's not that it matters that there's a deceased child - I think that's a matter of attitude, it doesn't have to be considered strange. My attitude would be that there's just too much weird baggage of so many might have beens, for me to want to use (or bear) it. All of it comes from Grandma, and it's not really clear that using it as a middle name would please Grandma. However it would be fine to use it in her honor specifically - particularly if you really do like it enough that you might use it regardless.

Sure, use Zoe if it has meaning for you. My brain isn't working properly this AM to suggest mns, however, I just wanted to say that Daphne and Theodora are gorgeous together! Really magical, imo. I love the flow of Theodora Zoe, however, I wouldn't use Daphne and Zoe side by side in a name. Those two names should be separated by a longish name.

I know somebody whose name is Tina Zoe. She was named after her grandma, Zoe Bernice, who was always called Bernice. They pronounce Zoe like Joe rather than Joey, which is kind of odd.
I think Zoe with one syllable makes a more attractive middle name than the two-syllable version. If I was your aunt I might not be thrilled to have a new baby given the name of my deceased baby for a middle name, but at the same time, the whole issue of Zoe in your family seems to have gotten out of hand. Your grandmother wanted a third daughter to name Zoe, and since then she has been lobbying for somebody else to name a baby Zoe. You were almost named Zoe but weren't; one of a set of quadruplets was named Zoe and did not survive. I think it's time to put Zoe to bed. Your grandmother could have gotten a cat or dog to name Zoe all this time; maybe the fact that Grandma had a cat named Zoe would have dissuaded your relatives from using the name for a baby, but would they have wanted to use Zoe if your grandmother hadn't kept harping on it?

I like Zoe! My mother had a Zoe friend whose mn was Mabel, and I've always liked the combo.I'm not sold on Daphne and Zoe together. Too Greek. Daphne Mabel Zoe could work, but I'd prefer to avoid three 2-syllable names in a row.Theodora Zoe is glorious, like a Byzantine empress in shimmering silk robes.Daphne Margaret Zoe
Theodora Mabel Zoe

I don't think it would be strange to use Zoe at all.Theodora Zoe is lovely - very Byzantine Empress. Daphne Zoe is fun but those two need to be separated, what with their similar ending-sounds. I'm really bad at three-name combos, but I'll give it a shot.Let's go full throttle Byzantine up in here, that'll give you some old fashioned uncommon options!Theodora Zoe Anastasia
Theodora Zoe Euphrosyne
Theodora Zoe Martina
Theodora Zoe Irene
Theodora Zoe Helena
Theodora Zoe Eudoxia
Theodora Zoe Aelia
Theodora Zoe Verina
Theodora Zoe Zenonis
Theodora Zoe Thekla
Theodora Zoe Baïana
Theodora Zoe Grandma's Name!?
