Re: Top ten name opinions-girls!
Emma - before it was popular, I thought it was a beautiful name. The sound is so pretty to me. Since it's so popular, I have to make an effort now to see its beauty. Olivia - I don't care for the sound. I was almost named Olivia in 1985 and as a kid I used to thank my mom profusely for naming me Caroline instead. I thought Olivia was repulsive. I'm not repulsed by it now, but I still think it's unattractive. Ava - Yeah, I'll never get it with this name. Eve I'd understand. Ava? What's to like?Isabella - I'm not a fan of Isabella but I am a fan of Isabel. It's just one of the most beautiful names on earth. I resent its extreme popularity. If it wasn't such a trend name, Isabel would be my top name, no question. Sophia - never have cared for the Soph names very much, but I prefer Sophie to Sophia. I remember thinking Sophie and Sophia were comically stuffy when I heard them as a child, like the name for a rich old woman's small fluffy white dog. Mia - see Ava, except this is even less appealing.Charlotte - meh... It's never been a favorite but I can see why people like it. It's lost its charm, or a good bit of it, for me. Amelia - I used to be a bigger fan of it than I am now. I never thought it'd get quite this popular. Really, top 10 level popularity ruins names for me. I know it's stupid but it's how I feel.Evelyn - so surprised this is so popular. It still sounds so dusty to my ears. It's kind of frumpy. Evie (Eh-vee) is so cute it's almost worth using Evelyn. It's certainly better than Everly. Abigail - this is dropping, I think. I've known so many and taught so many. It wasn't uncommon for girls when I was growing up, at least where I lived. People like it for Abby. I don't care for it too much, but Abigail in the middle name spot could seem quaint to me.
