[Opinions] Kay
WDYT of Kay (f) as a firstname, not a NN for anything, just on its own? Also, I've been thinking of possible middle name combos for it. I would like two middle names, but every time I find something that sounds ok and has a good meaning to it, it sounds somewhat... long.Kay Bellatrix
Kay Lavinia
Kay PenelopeKay Winona Bellatrix
Kay Isa Bellatrix (EE-za)I'm also looking for some middle names that are bit more common, but I'm never able to find any. Suggestions are very welcome, but also what you think of the different combos. And how they could be changed, perhaps.
Thanks in advance.

I can't stand Kay as a girls name, my Papa's name is Oliver Kay but everyone refers to him as Kay. So for me it's really odd to hear for a girl. But I can tolerate it as a mn for a girl seeing as my aunt's name is Winona Kay and my little cousin's name is Brittanie Kay.

I love Kay, but only as a nn. Traditionally it's a nn for Katherine, but I suppose you could use it for any name that begins with the letter K. I'd have to see what formal name you'd choose before commenting on how any particular mn sounds with it.One word, though. I dislike the name Bellatrix under any circumstances. It's too similar to "belli" the Latin word for war, as in bellicose or belligerent. When combined with the "-trix" ending, roughly equivalent to the English suffix "-ist," my mind sees "war-ist." Or, put another way, someone who starts a war. ~~shivers~~ I do, however, love the name Beatrix. The Beatrix Potter imagery in my mind is light years away from a *war-ist / warrior.*

I much prefer it as a nickname. It seems a bit insubstantial as a first name. I'd much rather see Katherine/Catherine/Katharine nn Kay or Kathleen nn Kay. I also slightly prefer the Kaye spelling. Thoughts on your combos:Kay Bellatrix - Bellatrix is far too strongly associated with HP right now. It's one of those names, like Hermione, Sirius, etc, that needs some time. Would Kay Beatrix work for you? Kay Beatrice? Kay Bellona? Kay Belphoebe?
Kay Lavinia - Not bad, though Lavinia's not a name I love about.
Kay Penelope - Very cute. I like it.Kay Winona Bellatrix - Not crazy about Winona. It's pretty strongly celeb associated.
Kay Isa Bellatrix (EE-za) - The flow of Kay Isa don't work. Here are some other suggestions, if you'd like them:
Kay Romina
Kay Virginia
Kay Juno Beatrix (or Kay Juno Bellatrix)
Kay Sebastiana
Kay Benedicta
Kay Lenore
Kay Scholastica
Kay Millicent
Kay Flavia

Kay or Kaye???Kaye is my middle name! (Notice my mother's attempt at being original by adding an E.)Ah, I love the name Bellatrix. Even though, you know, the whole thing with Harry Potter and 'her' killing Sirius. I don't really think it goes too well with Kay as a first name though.Probably out of all your choices, Kay Penelope. It's a good name I think.I suggest the following:3 names:
Kay Adela ("noble") Leigh 2 names:
Kay Ryanne (varient of Ryan)
Kay Leandra (varient of Leander, meaning "lion of man")
Kay Leanora (varient of Leonora, varient of Eleanor)
Kay Romayne (in the long run meaning Roman)
I hope this helped some.

(m)That's a very pretty mn! :)Yeah, I know the HP thing and Bellatrix, but I tried not to think about that. I loved the name from astronomy before I read the book...I really like your suggestions, especially Romayne. That one is perfect actually. And Adela is very good too. Thank you so much for the help!

Kay is very masculine to me, I can't see it by itself on a girl. What about Mary Kay? Or Kayla nn Kay?

Kayla is very nice. Thank you!

I only like Kay for a boy. Somehow I think it sounds NNy for a girl, but not for a boy. Combos I like:Kay Michael
Kay Arthur
Kay Edward
Kay RupertHowever, as I'm thinking about it now I realize that it sounds a lot like gay, especially if you just say it without specifically emphasizing the k. So I think that would put me off of it for either gender -- not because I mind the connotation, but because I tend to stay away from any names that sound a lot like words. I don't consider using Annalise either, even though I like it, because I can't "analyze" and "anal-lise" out of my head. Same with Tobin. I always hear toe-bin. So...that might be something to think about. It might not bother you as it does me.

(m)I see your point. I have never really thought about this, as I often like names such as River, Wind or Summer.Thank you for replying, I will keep it in mind :)

Ah, but you see...I like quite a few word names too. River, Willow, Alder, and Taiga come to mind. But it's very different to have a name that actually IS a word - and is therefore self-aware and okay by me - than to have a name that just sounds similar to a word and therefore can bring in associations that may or may not be desired. Does that make sense?
