I really love Edgar. DH really likes the nn Ted. We both like Theodore but have 2 Theo's in the family. Could Ted work as a nickname for Edgar since Edward does?

Also thoughts on Edgar? And the combo Edgar Samson

Not personally a fan of Edgar but Edgar Samson sounds like a good strong name

I had an uncle named Edgar.In the family, he was always called T.T...no idea why.
his work-mates called him Ed.

I've never heard of someone using Ted as a nickname for Edward or Edgar. I think it's fine but it is a little odd.

I don't like Edgar at all, but I think Ted would work fine for it, and any of the 'Ed' names.

Question: Do you pronounce it ED-gar or EGG er?

I had a great-uncle named Edgar, and when my sisters and I were children, we used to call him "Uncle EGG-er". As we matured into teenagers, we began to pronounce his name "ED-gar"---on the rare occasions that we referred to him. I always thought that "EGG-er" was just a childish mispronunciation. Do any adults say, "EGG-er", I wonder?

It certainly used to be the usual pronunciation in England, but I think now very out dated

Logically, if a name shortens to Ed then Ted can work as well. And if you regularly say "This is our son Ted", then people will get the idea pretty easily. So, go for it - it's a good compromise.

I'm not crazy about Edgar, but I prefer it to Theodore. I think Ted works as a nn for Edgar...if it works for Edward, it should work for Edgar.

Absolutely, I think Ted works for any Ed name.

Something feels off about Edgar Samson, but I can't put my finger on it. Edgar Samuel is very handsome though.

Hi !!!

I think that Edgar does not need any NN. It goes perfectly as it is.

After that I dislike Ted / Teddy as a NN for Ed- names. This is because I'm not an English-speaker so I'm not familiar with this link.

Edgar Samson is too rough imo. Both names have strong sounds so they clash in the same combo. If you want to use Edgar I suggest a softer MN.. Florian, Dorian, Sebastian or something shorter like Harry or Theo as you said.

I thought Edgar & Samson clashed with each other and couldn't put my finger on why....you're right. They are both VERY strong names, and a little bit too much together. Agree with the poster above who thought Edgar Samuel 'went' a bit better, or maybe Edward / Edwin Samson
