Daniel and Danielle are family names- if your maiden name is Daniels, you have a kid with either of those as a first or middle name. I like it, but don't want to continue that tradition, probably since my nephew is Evan Daniel. The other boy, about a year older than him, is Jace Daniel.

If I'd had a second son, he'd have had Daniel as a name, and quite possibly as a fn. There was a tradition in my husband's family to name one son with an H- name plus Daniel as a mn, and call him Daniel, Dan etc. Their taste in H- names wasn't mine (Harold and Horace spring to mind) but since they weren't used, it hardly matters! I'd also have used Thomas, after both my grandfathers.

I have fallen in love with the name Daniel too! This is my second name I would use for a future child, I usually don't think of using top 10 or even 20 names but this one just sounds so handsome almost. It has a really nice sound and reputation (despite it being super popular). I like the nicknames it comes with too, Dan or Danny.

Daniel is actually my favorite of the uber popular names for boys. I love the way it sounds and I don't even mind Dan. Danny, otoh, is another matter.
