Hera
I've always loved the name Hera, even though the namesake can be problematic (constantly betrayed wife who punished everybody except her philandering husband). The pronunciation I use is the Classical Greek (sounds a bit like "hair" with a schwa at the end), not the provided "English" pronunciation with the long-E. Come to think of it, I've never heard that one used to describe the goddess, even in school.Anyway, I really struggle with combos for Hera. I had "Hera Genevieve" for a spell, but wound up giving Genevieve to another name in my Top 10 as a middle. Then I had "Hera Josephine," before Josephine actually joined my Top 10. Right now I have Hera Francesca, but I'm not 100% sold. (I've also tossed around Celeste, Evangeline, Nadine, and Winifred.)Does anyone have any ideas? I'm open to just about anything.Edit--Thank you for your replies! This are the main combos I'm considering:Hera Cecily
Hera Celine
Hera Katherine
Hera Madeleine
Hera Silvana***Please rate my personal name lists:www.behindthename.com/pnl/69381

I think it's cool, sort of in the middle stylewise of Athena and Harriet. And I think it'd sound more subtle or less pop culture related than Juno.I don't remember ever hearing it said with a long E.Hera Noemi

I like it a lot. Yeah she's not the best namesake but it's one of the easiest, simplest goddess names.
I've only ever heard it like hair-a in English. Hera Victoria
Hera Gwendolen
Hera Rosalind
Hera Katherine
Hera Penelope
Hera Melusine
Hera Lorelei
Hera Beatrice
Hera Leonor

Hera Katherine flows very nicely, though I'm not sure if that or Hera Catherine looks better...

Hera is pretty and elegant. I agree that Hera is somewhat controversial, but the worst things that happened to the women that Zeus targeted were done by Zeus, who turned Io into a cow, ate Metis (Athena's mother), and raped many others. When I compare Hera's misdeeds to nearly every other god and goddess, she seems like one of the better sorts. Since the Greek and Roman gods were not omniscient, I wonder if Hera just struggled to differentiate between the women who were assaulted by Zeus and the women who had no qualms about sleeping with a married guy? She seemed like a more reliable patroness of heroes like Jason and was more steadfast in her support of the Greeks. She was vengeful and simultaneously loyal and giving. Hera, Hades, and Poseidon did successfully rebel against Zeus at one point and held him captive until he swore to be a better ruler, but it did take all three of them. I have a head canon that Greek myths about the gods affairs came to an end because Hera finally got fed up and dethroned Zeus and imprisoned him somewhere for everyone's benefit. Hera currently rules of Olympus and has the gods leave humans alone so long as we leave them alone.Hera and Rhea would make a cute sibling set.
Hera Anastasia
Hera Isabel
Hera Sophronia
Hera Remei
Hera Elizabeth
Hera Francesca

Okay, my education was remiss because this is definitely the first time I've heard of a myth wherein Hades, Hera, and Poseidon (also a cool name) successfully rebelled against Zeus and forced him to be a better ruler / person. Was Hestia involved too, I wonder? Make it fun for the whole family! :-PMost tellings with which I'm familiar basically paint Hera as a protector of home and hearth, a guide through childbirth, and of course very beautiful... but also very, very jealous. I have no illusions that her characterizations in the myths weren't derived from contemporary sexism / misogyny.Hera Sophronia is my favorite of the combos you posted.

Is this a joke? Hera would never make a suitable name, it sounds like you aren't even taking this seriously.

This isn't a joke post.I admit I wasn't prepared for this response. How am I "not taking this seriously"?I've heard the name Hera on a real-live person before. It's by no means a common name, but not unheard-of. It's not like I'm talking about naming a little girl Clytemnestra here. In truth, I've loved the name Hera for years, though I did regard her as a GP along with the other uncommon mythological names (like Elektra, Gaia, or Antigone - though the latter two, I have met women with those names). If you don't like Hera, that's fine. But this was a serious post.

I'm sorry. I forgot to mention that my top names for whatever month weren't jokes either. I think you think that Hera is a more believable name than Quetzalcoatl.
