Any surprises in the 2024 rankings? (USA)
Girls:
Lavender entered the top 1000 for the first time (997)! Loving that Romy is also ranked at 925.
Aylani is also new to the top 1000- ranked up at 560 already. Some other new additions: Honey (934), Tilly (951), Elsa (938), Micha (839).
Eleanor stayed at #14, but I expected it to be ranked higher.
Boys:
Interesting to see Vance still in the top 1000 (#992), I definitely thought this would be out this year!
Laith is new at #971, I’m not familiar with this name but would love to hear opinions.
Love that Cedric is back at 943, and Casper at 878! Was surprised that these went unranked in 2023 so I’m glad to see them.
Anything that surprised you with the rankings?

I'm pleasantly surprised Elowyn isn't charting and Elowen is. The former spelling looks quite horrid to me.
For me personally it's seeing Kaliyah, a homophone of my name, slowly creeping up the charts.
If my name ever enters the top 1000 I don't know how I'll feel 😅

I was surprised to see a name like Melissa, which some would consider dated and out of fashion, had a surge and charted even higher than fashionable, trendy names like Miley and Hayden.
As well, for all the controversy about the insufferable trendiness and soon-to-be datedness of Khaleesi, not to mention the Game of Thrones tv show already ending a couple years ago, this name is still getting mileage and charted even higher than last year, going up 44 spots.

Feminine:
-Ailany, Aylani and Ailani, of course
-Scottie unstoppably boosting as a feminine name
-I was about to ask what caused Elodie to spike in popularity, but turns out it was influenced by the Netflix movie Damsel. I wish Floria had also charted
-Adhara
-Solana. What's the reason behind its rise? Sol and Soleil?
-Wrenley didn't go up much because of Wrenlee and Wrenleigh (yikes)
-Glad to see Seraphina getting gradually popular
-Jream. Why are parents choosing this name? The worst thing is that Dream dropped a few spots in 2024 whereas Jream rose
-Marjorie unexpectedly making a comeback. I hope it lingers in the chart
-Alanna's boost in comparison to Alana and Alannah. Is it because of Alianna?
-Alisson? Why this spelling?
-Vienna
-Angie. I thought it was going to leave the top 1000
-Keziah
-Miller as a feminine name
-Deborah and Natasha not leaving the chart
-Halle rising because of Halle Bailey
-Kailany (an import from Latin America?)
-Elowen finally charting
-Icelynn, a guilty pleasure of mine (but I like Icelyn better)
-Romy now not uncommon as a name on its own
-Honey
-Lettie making a comeback (but not Letitia?)
-Guinevere. I was sad when it left the chart in 2023

I pray that Marjorie isn't because of Marjorie Taylor Greene, but most likely...
Totally ruined the name for me 🫠🫠

I wonder the same thing. I mean I didn't care for the name even before her and now it's even worse. 1000 times worse.
Floria is beautiful, I wish it would have charted too!
The singer SZA’s first name is Solana so maybe that’s contributed to the popularity as well?
Marjorie is definitely a fun surprise to see come back!

Most likely! SZA won the Hal David Starlight Award last year.
Scottie for girls rose 413 spots to #201. I thought it would go up, but not that high.
What a shame. I despise Scottie for a girl.
My name last charted in 2016 and each year since I've waited and hoped to see it make a return :( I keep thinking this is going to be the year because Tabitha is charting regularly in the UK and it's so much in the same vein as names like Charlotte, like kinda fancy old-timey vibes lol
Tabitha is such a shock to be out of the top 1000! I see it on the same wavelength as other “older” names that are super popular: Charlotte, Georgia, Evelyn, Josephine, etc. It also feels very timeless to me.
I love Tabitha!
Right! I'm glad it hangs around regularly in the UK charts at least lol gives me hope it'll chart again in the US one day lol
I thought your name was Ora!
Nope, just a family name I use just on this site :) I've thought about just making my username my fn but I've been Ora here for so, so long... lol
I'm suprised that Eleanor is the same. I figured it would be way higher.
Honey is not my favorite, I much prefer it as a sweet pet name.
Amelia is getting annoying- number 3?
Cedric and Casper are surprising!
I actually like Laith even though I've never heard of it.

Icelynn entering! Makes Oaklynn seem normal!
Deborah! It's my favorite dated name. I always check whether it's still in the top 1000. Deborah has been hovering near the bottom for some time, and I expected it to leave in 2024. Nice to see it rise by 116 spots!
Also, Scottie. I like Scott, and Scottie is kinda cute, though I'm not sure it ages well. I'm not following much of pop culture, so I wonder whether there was a character or something that triggered the use.
Not much surprised about the boys. Atlas is my top name at the moment. I expected it to decline a bit but it almost made it to the top 100. Happy to see it around without getting too popular.
Theodore rising does not surprise me. I think Theodore might be the #1 name in a few years.

I feel like the rise of the name 'Scottie' makes sense. Anecdotally, there are a lot of Gen Xers and millennials (and likely Gen Z as well) named Scott and maybe they're looking for a feminine form of Scott as an honouring name and came up with 'Scottie'? Maybe they want to honour Scottish heritage? Also there's a character nicknamed "Scotty" in Star Trek as well? I don't really know how influential that last one is but yeah, just my thoughts.
That's my guess as well re: Scottie. I bet there are lots of grandpas and dads named Scott out there now, and with people having just one or two kids...
Deborah is so beautiful, I just hesitate because of the nickname "Debbie."
I don't understand Scottie.

Scottie seems better for dogs than for humans. I'm glad Deborah is coming back.
Scottie is awful, imo, but I can’t say I’m surprised. I do see people talk about that one on name forums.
It's so cool that Guinevere has charted, and Wallace! I'm also kind of pleased to see Icelynn on the charts - it makes me think of all the weird little "ice" names from the 1880s. Who knew they'd come back.
Aspen finally charts as a male name too! I am vindicated. I have always thought Aspen could work for a boy just fine.
Scottie for girls rising over 400 spots was unexpected.
Arisbeth charting at 987 is interesting. What's that one about?

Donald certainly surprised me as well and not in a good way. Although I didn't expect it do fall off the charts, I honestly thought it would drop much more significantly.
I'm guessing that Donald will most likely stay in the top 1000 for another decade, even if it's decline continues until Trump leaves office in 2029.
Someone please explain to me how Ailany jumped 754 spots. I've never even seen people talk about that name, and it seems like such an odd spelling compared to Ailani or Aylani.

Basically this. My jaw dropped when I saw how many spots it jumped - 754?! It almost made it to the top 100!
I hope Mike adds Ailany to the main collection just like he did with Jream two years ago. While I don't like the name, I can't deny it's impressive.

Ailany is the spelling of a clothing brand name, so it's probably another example of a brand name associated with fashion or elegance, like Milani, becoming a baby name.
That makes perfect sense, thank you!
Wow I absolutely overlooked that one!! Definitely surprising for sure, I never hear or see that name!
