Larger historical sibset
The State Library of Western Australia regularly puts up themed sets of old photographs, and today's included a picture of 'Charles Harper's children', a group of 8 children in a field in 1897. I couldn't let that pass and went into the the family history search for WA to find out about them. It turned out that the eldest and youngest were missing from the photo, but I got all of their names, and thought they were interesting. Year of birth in brackets; parents were Charles and Fanny.Charles Walter (1880)
Clara Julia (1881)
Harcourt Robert (1882)
Gresley Tatlock (1884)
Prescott Henry (1886)
Mary Elizabeth & Mildred Louisa (twins 1888)
Wilfred Lukin (1890) - Lukin was Charles' mother's maiden name
Jeffrey Hilsden (1892)
Aileen Fanny (1895)

They did good. I like Harcourt Robert a lot. Mildred Louisa is a beautiful combination. Wilfred Lukin is cool and I like Hilsden.

Naming so many can't be easy! But ... Harcourt Harper? Really? Robert Harcourt Harper, yesyesyes! And then, along comes Gresley Tatlock, who is sheer comedy, poor child. They were fond of the letter H. Amazing how Wilfred has effectively vanished: it's not that bad. I like Jeffrey but far prefer Geoffrey. And the girls ... I don't like the rhyming Clara Julia: Clare Julia, yes, Clara Juliet, yes. The twins got lucky! Aileen Fanny is a whole lot better than, say, Fanny Aileen, but Aileen Frances is prettier. Aileen always brings me up short: a friend (Antoinette, brother Alan) came from a family which used A- names for all the children, and of course after a couple of generations they ran out of good choices, so my friend's mother was named Aileen but with the pronunciation like Eileen. Ludicrous!
I wonder if Gresley Tatlock is a male name? These are pretty nice names.
Yes, Gresley was a boy. The girls were Clara, Mary, Mildred and Aileen.
