More uneasy events followed
Arianna's birth. Not events, per se--certainly no more attacks--but
Eirian began to have a general feeling of foreboding. A few times someone shouted her name aloud as she rode in the city, but she couldn't see who or where it came from, and twice notes have been left on her desk. The first said, "I know who you are," and the second "You are she." The notes were seen as strange but harmless, and her name being called in public she was assured she would get used to. But
Eirian had a hard time laughing them off, even occupied as seh was with her new daughter. She felt as if she were being watched wherever she went, and she didn't feel comfortable leaving
Arianna alone, even to sleep. Though many smiled at this as a new mother's typical anxiety,
Darius took her worries seriously enough that he agreed to the hiring of a bodyguard specifically to guard the infant princess when her parents couldn't be there.
Darius had the utmost respect for
Eirian's intuition, which he had seen at work several times in their travels together, and he kenw that if she were frightened it was with good reason. He insisted she be protected as well.
Eirian agreed, though she hated it, and began to take a bodyguard with her when she went anywhere alone. This generally alternaated between two friends she had met at the same time as
Darius,
Victoria and
Magnus, both who had served as his traveling companions and bodyguards. They were both very great friends to the couple, and they all trusted one another implicitly. Their presence helped
Eirian feel more secure, though it didn't make the feeling go away.
But only nine months after the birth of
Arianna,
Eirian forgot all her worry when she discovered she was pregnant again! This caused some worry for the princess's health, but
Darius and
Eirian were excited and knew things would go well. Though they hadn't planned it, they were pleased that
Arianna would have a sibling close to her in age.
Arianna was too young to know what was going on, as she was still a baby herself, but everyone was confident she would be a good older sister. Preparations were made, and a great deal of excitement was in the air. Seventeen months after
Arianna's birth,
Eirian and
Darius welcomed a son, whom they named
Nicodemus as a name they both loved.
Daniel is of course after
Eirian's birth father, and they wanted his third name to be after the king, but
King William protested. He had always disliked his own first name, and suggested his second name
Joseph instead. This was agreed to, and
Henry was added at the end for an ancient king.
Nico, as the family calls him, is a quiet and well-mannered baby, easy to please and to care for.
Arianna is quite intrigued by him, and
Darius and
Eirian have had to several times rescue
Nico from the too-curious hands of his still-a-baby older sister.
