1. I usually love classic names, but
Mary has just never been a favourite of mine. I adore the names
Maria,
Marianne, Mrina, and a lot of other names which are related to
Mary.
Mary just doesn't have that special something I'm looking for in the names I love. It's still nice, though, and definitely not a bad choice for a name.
2. I do like the name
Molly. It's very cute, though I can't really see why a name as short as
Mary should have a nickname derived of it.
3. Probably yes. It's different when the actual name is a bit too long for daily use.
Mary, however, is short enough already, so I think it would be smarter to just name a child
Molly if she's going to go by that anyways. Unless there's a special reason for the use of the name
Mary and a preferance to the name
Molly.
4. Well... I just love the name
Elizabeth,
Mary is OK, and the flow is good, but I still don't like the name
Mary Elizabeth because it's incredibly overused as a combo. I can't think of any feminine combo which is more common than
Mary Elizabeth. That's why, instead of thinking of the combo as classic and pretty, I can't help but consider the name overused and worn.
5. I'd go for something classic,
Jane Austenesque, like
Elizabeth,
Victoria,
Cassandra,
Lydia,
Catherine,
Julia or
Louisa.
