Really good name! The meaning is amazing, it sounds quite nice and very uncommon where I live. BUT (and a very big but here) there is one flaw. Where I live, their is a beer company called this which kind of puts me off of this name, sorry. TLDR: I like the name, just there is a beer company.

She is a 17-year-old girl with Cystic Fibrosis, a terminal genetic disease that damages the patient's lungs and has a high rate of early mortality. The disease isn't contagious, but patients have a high risk of cross-infection, so it is necessary for them to keep a distance of at least six feet between each other. The book and movie tell the story of how Stella met and fell in love with a fellow Cystic Fibrosis-er named Will Newman, and their relationship five feet apart from each other.

I'm likely the only one who thinks of this particular association first, and if not, I'm at least the only one who can't get past this association.
If anything the original movie quote might potentially be a bit of a negative. How many times have real life Stellas had their name yelled at them over the years?

This is a lovely name with a nice meaning. I slightly prefer Estella, but this is a great name either way, very pretty and nicely simple, but not too girly and cutesy. It's far more interesting than the currently overused Ella.

No, it's not actually an Italian name. It's an English coinage of a name taken from an Italian/Latin word. So I guess if there is a "correct" pronunciation it would be the English one; it's not traditionally used as a name in Italy, and it's used as one was English.
