I like it! I didn't till I studied Gemmology though - I saw it as a frumpy dated name. Beryl is a pretty stone though i began to really like it. I like Beryl Agatha, Beryl Susanna and Beryl Octavia.

I fell in love with the name Beryl when I discovered Beryl Markham was a pioneering pilot in the 1920's / 30's, in Kenya. It has an air of rebellion about it for me.The only Beryl I ever met, however, pronounces it with one syllable, just like Burl Ives. Yikes! So my one caveat is that it has to be pronounced the U.K. way, rhyming with Cheryl. Hopefully no one else other than the one I met pronounces it "burl." You offer so many great options that I get dizzy. My favorites: Beryl Astrid, Beryl Cornelia, Beryl Enid (love that inter-war feel), Beryl Judith, Beryl Margaret, Beryl Minerva, Beryl Ottoline (colonial Africa meets Bloomsbury bohemians), Beryl Regina ("-JEE-nuh"), Beryl Rosamund (don't mess with her), Beryl Rowena, Beryl Winifred.

I think Beryl is interesting. It's got the very hard start and then the rest of the name is kind of soft and gentle. I'm not sure whether I like it or not, but it's a cool name to say.Beryl Athena

It's kind of nice. I like the gemstone-iness and it has an upbeat sound.I like it with something light and springy, since Beryl has a heavy sound:
Beryl Amelia
Beryl Frances
Beryl Georgina
Beryl Joanna
Beryl Johanna
Beryl Marjorie
Beryl Rosemarie

Beryl is so outdated and unattractive to me. Also I think of "Beryl the Peril", who was a character in the Dandy comics. http://childrensbookshop.com/images/bookimages/78/78840.jpg

I don't pronounce Beryl and barrel the same way. I always thought Beryl was kind of neat. I've used it on a Sim (her full name was Beryl Lee Um, yes I'm a nerd)

Might as well just use Barrel. It's just really not a nice name

Great sister to Hortense!

Roll in the barrel......sorry, but that's what the name makes me think of. I don't find it the least bit attractive.
