[Opinions] Matthew
I really love this name, but whenever I see it talked about here it’s pretty much always to refer to how awful and boring it is. Do any of you like this name, or am I alone in this? And if you had to use it it a combo, what would you pair with it?http://www.behindthename.com/pnl/87410

I love Matthew (and most of its variants: Matteo/Mateo, Matej, Matthias, Matvei...love 'em all) and would consider using if I didn't hate the nickname Matt.Matthew Josiah
Matthew Isaac
Matthew River
Matthew Abram
Matthew Paul
Matthew Jacob
Matthew Benjamin
Matthew David
Matthew NicholasMatthew sounds good with just about anything, really.

This is my younger brother’s name. I like it and think it’s a really nice name, I just haven’t given it too much thought. Combos for boy names are hard for me, I’m better with girl names. Here are a couple, though:
Matthew Cole
Matthew David
Matthew Paul
Matthew Gabriel
Matthew Isaac
Matthew Ethan
Matthew Cameron
Matthew Thomas

I don't think its boring at all! I think its very classic, handsome and pleasant sounding. I definitely prefer it to Mathias\MattiasIf I didn't have a known cousin named Matthew, I would consider using the combo of 'Dean Matthew' for a son. :P

I like Matthew. I dislike Matt, though (a "mat" is something you walk on), which is why I disliked the name quite a bit as a kid into my teen years - because every Matthew I knew went by Matt. If that nickname weren't so ubiquitous, I'd consider Matthew more. As it is, I like it as a middle name.

It is certainly not awful. I do find it incredibly boring though. I grew up with countless classmates named Matthew, so I am a bit tired of it. It’s a perfectly adequate name though. I prefer its variants: Mathis, Mattias, Matthias. Matt is a cute nn as well! I also adore the Anne of Green Gables association.Matthew August
Matthew Frederick
Matthew Garnet
Matthew Joseph
Matthew Levi
Matthew Robert
Matthew Rory
Matthew Stefan
Matthew Tobias

I think it sounds a bit like a sneeze, but it's not an awful name. Our generation has lost a big of perspective on it because we were over-saturated with Matthews our whole lives. Name a personality type, and I can tell you a Matthew that I knew growing up who had it. Good and bad. And if I ever wanted to name a kid Matthew, I know at least half a dozen who would flatter themselves that I named my child after them, when I would never want to honour them that way.

I think it got overused for a while there. But not worse than, say, Sarah or Paul. I like it, although it's not a favorite because it makes me think of the Bible and that makes me feel like it's not for me (since I'm not religious or Bible-educated, and don't really grasp what-all the name Matthew connotes). I like the name Matt. I've liked almost every Matt I've met. It's great.Matthew Ysidro ... for the tension in the meanings. (link: Isidro)

I know a Matthew Florian, which cheers it up nicely.

I’d consider using it if I didn’t have a cousin named Matthew.

I hate the THYOO ending. But even if I didn't, it's been massively overused, so I'm tired of it.

I hate hate hate the name Matthew, and I'd hate it even if it wasn't so popular. It's babyish and makes me want to say it Maffew in a cutesy baby-talk voice, and always seems to be begging to be prefaced with Baby or Little.
I've met plenty of Matthews, most of which were called Matt, and most were very nice guys, but that hasn't helped me like the name. If Matthew the name was somehow embodied in a human form, I'd want to punch him in the nose.
I feel the same way about Sarah; Baby Sarah, Little Sarah, goo goo ga ga, idn't she tweet?

Matthew is my second favorite boys' name (after Andrew).

I've known multiple Matthews all my life, so it can be hard to separate the name from the frequency that I've heard it. When I was a kid, I remember my brother getting together with a group of his friends and four of them were called Matt. It is one of the few names common in English speaking countries that ends in "w," and I like seeing a variety of name endings. The meaning "gift of God" sounds positive and affirming. I'm not crazy about the nick name Matt, but overall I can see why so many parents were attracted to it.
