It's dated to the 80s here too and it has a bit of a tacky image here as well. I don't have a problem with it but I don't really like it either. I really dislike the nicknames Mel and Mellie. I imagine someone with dark hair who likes sports.
Melanie Rachel works well but is very 80s. I wouldn't pair it with dated names such as Rachel, Laura, Jasmine, Irene because it makes the combo extra dated.
