[Opinions] Lucifer
My boyfriend really loves the name Lucifer as a girls names. He thinks it sounds pretty and I admit it does sound kinda pretty (he says he would use Lucy as an obvious nickname). Even if I liked this name, my super Christian father would not stand for it lmao But what do you think?♡*+:•*∴”:♡.•♬✧♡*+:•*∴”:♡.•♬✧♡*+:•*∴”:♡.•♬✧♡*+:•*∴”:♡.•♬✧♡*+:•*∴”:♡.•♬✧♡*+:•*∴”:♡.•♬✧♡*+:•*∴”:♡.•♬✧♡*+:•*∴”:♡.•♬✧♡*+:•*∴”:♡.•♬✧♡*+:•*∴”:♡.•♬✧

No offense, but I really can’t see why people like this name so much. Why not Lucy, Lucia, Luciana, Lucille, Lucilla, Lucine, Lucinda, or even more if you’re willing? Is it the feeling of going against conventional naming standards? Lucifer really isn’t that pretty or attractive as a name regardless. The etymology is fine though. As a middle name it could pass, as a first name; I would highly suggest using something else.

While I do think the name itself is beautiful.. There’s bad associations like “that name makes me think of the word antidote” or “that name reminds me of the idiot that crashed my car” and then there’s bad associations like “Hey, that’s the name of someone we all collectively know and hate!”

I love it! The name Lucifer is gorgeous and way too beautiful to not be admired, but holy cow is it a head-turn. Even as an Athiest, this one is just a bit too much for me. Lucy is a wonderful name, maybe a bit basic, but it's still very charming. There are a wonderful collection of names with this nickname, that easily rival the elegance of Lucifer. ( imo )Such as...
Lucinda
Lucia
Lucifera
Lucius
Lucivany
Lucienne
Lucabela
Lucyanna
…and any Double-barrel name including LucySome Examples
Lucy May
Lucy Bell
Lucy Lou
Lucy Bo
Lucy Lee
Lucy Lulu

Mazikeen
Persephone
Jezebel

I prefer it as a boy name but it is my favorite Lucy name between others like Lucas, Lucian, Lucille, or Lucinda. I don't think it would work on a girl. There's a manwha I read on webtoon where the main character is Lucifela (female character) which is similar to Lucifer.

This is one of the more appalling ideas for torturing little girls. No modern child should have to haul this much baggage around certainly not a girl who gets the added dead weight of it being entirely masculine.

I once knew a dog named Lucyfur...But yeah, this doesn't belong on people. Sorry.

omg I honestly love that lmao

I don’t mind it personally, but it is bound to be associated with the devil. Even by non-Christian people, probably. I get that it is kind of cute and it does actually have a nice meaning. But it might be more trouble than it’s worth!

I prefer Lucy Jennifer. It's a nice combo and you could jokingly use Lucifer as a nickname.I don't think Lucifer as a legal name is usable at all.

It's come up at least a couple times before. This was the most recent I think https://www.behindthename.com/bb/baby/5311955.I think people like it because of Lucy and Jennifer. And/or because there's romanticism about being the morning star (like Venus) and a rebel. But I don't like it, really.

Not a good name at all. If you like it just use Luci or better yet Lucy.

The only polite thing I can find to say is that, if you half-shut your eyes and squint, it might look slightly like a merger between Lucy and Jennifer. Either of which would be preferable.

I think it would be the best idea in the world if you were trying to pick the absolute worst thing possible, paralleled only by Adolf or Hitler. It doesn't matter if you're a Christian or not, a ton of people associate Lucifer with the Devil regardless. Might as well take it a step further and name it demon spawn.

This exactly. Everyone, regardless if they are religious or not, knows who Lucifer is; the fallen angel. There's no way around the association. Plus, I'm pretty sure it's banned in most places anyway. Good reason too. Best to just use either Jennifer or Lucy. Whatever else have you.

the mom basically dismissed my shocked expression by saying they weren't religious, so it didn't matter at all.. which is a bizarre form of denial imo

I'd say. Lol!

I actually posted about the time I ran into a real life little boy Lucifer last year, it was... an interesting experience. I'll link ithttps://www.behindthename.com/bb/all/5263816

I think it's terrible, I prefer Lucinda, similar sound

I think it’s terrible even if you aren’t Christian. Just use Lucy at this point.

that's the thing, I hate the name Lucy >.

Then I wouldn’t pick something that lends itself to the nickname Lucy so easily.

You said that your boyfriend is planning on using the nickname Lucy if Lucifer was used, so you would be hearing Lucy regardless. Why consider a name with a planned nickname that you hate?
