Delilah?
What do you think of this name?
Is the biblical connection too negative for you to consider using it?
Can you think of any nice middle names for it?:)

I like it a lot especially as a mn. My favourite combo was Esmee Delilah which I still like but not as much as I used to. Isla mentioned this in her post but the first thing that comes to mind is the song "Hey Delilah" for me. I know it has a negative biblical connection but its not a big deal, in my opinion and I don't think that's the first thing that people will think when the hear the name. I think that simple, one or two syllable names are great mns for Delilah, like:Beatrix
Carys (Love this with Delilah)
Claire
Eve
Faith
Grace
Joy
Katherine
Mercy
Mia
Mireille
Monet
Niamh
Nyx
Rain
Rose
Sky
Xanthe
Zoe

I actually think it sounds really pretty, but yes, the Biblical connection just ruins it for me! That's why I prefer just Lila.

I love the name, and the name doesn't really bother me. God knows that Delilah's ( the biblical person) name wasn't intended for that bad rep. Her parent's just liked it. Delilah wasn't trying to make it a bed name.'Delilah' should be treated as a beautiful name, and respected too. Delilah was a person. 'Delilah' shouldn't be a bad name (in my opinion, it shouldn't be a bad name at ALL) just beacuse it was a person.God probably darned the person-- not the name.I mean, a name that would be on the "GOD's very un-preffered names" list would probably go like this:
Damion
Dameon
Devon
Deven
Devan
D'Men
Day'Men
Daymeon
And any other names having to do with demons, devil, or evil things.Delilah was an evil person.
Not an evil name.
For every name, there is an evil person with that name, and a bad person with that name.'Delilah' has a bad person, and an un-heard of good person. Each name is harboring a different story, a different person. When I grow up, my daughter's name will be 'Delilah Rose'.Her sister would be 'Jaidenne "Jade" - Storm''Delilah' is a magnificent name.

none of names you list have to do with devils or demons...If you'd taken the trouble to look up their meanings, you would have seen that even though they sound assonant to "devil" or "demon" they have totally different etymologies. Since Devon is actually a region in England, according to your reasonment it's been damned by God?
And anyway, is it only me who finds the whole notion of "God's un-preferred names" slightly disturbing?

Damian has nothing to do with demons . . .. . . except that it was used as the name of a child in a horror movie a few years ago. I very much doubt that God would get excited about that.

Delilah's pretty, but I prefer Dahlia. I wouldn't let a biblical connection (I don't know the story of this character or what she did, sorry) keep you from using it. I don't see why people wouldn't like Delilah just because there was a bad person with the name-I'm sure for every single name out there, that there's a bad person with it. There's no avoiding that. If you like Delilah, use it, and ignore people that wouldn't like the name because of her, one single bearer of the name, out of many. And to Rocio- I didn't know Damion had anything to do with 'demons, devils, or evil things'. I was always under the impression that people associated it with those things because it sounded like 'demon', and because there was a character Damien in a scary show. Am I missing an associaton or meaning of the name or something? How would those things make God un-preffer the name?

I don't think she was technically a Biblical whore, but she wasn't a holy, pure person either. :-/ That connection bothers me a bit, plus the connection with the annoying radio host. I much prefer just Lila. No De- and no -h. Currently there's a song on the radio (by the Plain White T's) called "Hey There, Delilah". It's actually quite catchy, and made me like the name a little bit more, but then there's the possibility of it catching on quite a bit because of the song. Along those lines, the announcer on the radio (no, it wasn't The Delilah, lol) said something to the effect of 'Delilah? Who's named Delilah anymore?' Obviously NOT a namenerd, lol.

I really like this too, as does my husband, but I haven't decided what middle name I would like with it.:)Danielle

I like Delilah a lot. It's become more popular in recent years - I hope it doesn't skyrocket! The biblical connection isn't strong enough to keep me from it personally, but if it bothers you, a great, underused alternative is Delia (which I like much more than Delilah anyway).I don't know your naming style, but I'll take a whack at some middle names for you:
Delilah June
Delilah Corinne
Delilah Annabel
Delilah Judith
Delilah Charlotte
Delilah Caroline
Delilah Carol
Delilah Jean
Delilah Rose - delicate rose :)
Delilah Rosalie
Delilah Jane
Delilah Niamh / Neve
Delilah Iris
Delilah Helen
Delilah Madeline / Madelyn
Delilah Evelyn
Delilah Harriet
Delilah ScarlettAny you like?

I think Delilah is lovely. The biblical connection doesn't bother although I do wonder how many other people it would bother. The connection that bothers me more is in the U.S. there's a schmaltzy radio host named Delilah who hosts a nationally syndicated show full of soft rock and sappy love songs.Delilah _________
Pearl
Magdalen
Rachel
Evelyn
Charlotte
Vivienne
Juliet(te)
Rosemary
