Carly
Like, dislike? Indifferent? Any combo ideas? "An intellectual says a simple thing in a hard way. An artist says a hard thing in a simple way." -Charles Bukowski

I prefer it as a nickname for Carla, Carlene, or even Carlotta.

Dislike. It seems very dated to me, and the look and sound of it are just ugly, imo. :( I also really don't like Carl or Karl so that's probably why I can't stand Carly.

I think it sounds like an adverb. Like doing something in the fashion of a car.

It seems nicknamey, childish and insubstantial to me. I have a friend with dd Carly and dd Kelsey. Actually I think Kelsey has a different spelling but I can't remember it right now.

Carly...hm...pretty indifferent. I knew a few when I worked at daycare, which would make them about 18-20 years old now. So it feels a bit dated to the mid-nineties to me.

Sound-wise, I'm indifferent; it feels more like a nickname than given name; associations are Carly Simon and Carly Patterson (gymnast). Have never tried pairing it...Carly Andrea

I prefer it to Carla, which I've never seen the point of, but still I find it flimsy and stuck in perpetual childhood.

Alas, it's over, past its prime as a baby name IMO. But I still like it pretty well.
Strangely, although I associate it with Carly Simon and iCarly, their images don't seem to stick to it. No image really does. It's cute but not too cute, not too trendy (Karli is), not too childish or too old sounding, somehow isn't affected negatively by sounding like Marley and Harley.Carly Amaryllis

Carly Marcella ...Only because I recently saw a Youtube video about JFK's assassination, I immediately thought of the mobster Carlos Marcello.

hahaI haven't heard that name - I was scanning my name list. But maybe I heard/read it unconsciously and that's where it came from! I guess it might not work as a baby name then.

As a given name? Highly dislike. It is way too nicknamey for me. I'd prever it as a nickname for Caroline or Charlotte.Carly Jean
