Which Would Work?
I'm writing a story, and I am having difficulty deciding on a name for one of the characters. The character is an old man and his last name is Tanner. For his first name, I originally went for Sampson, then Samson, then thought about Obed, and now I can't decide!
"Old Man Tanner" has a son named Dennis, a grandson named David (who's Dennis' son), and two granddaughters named Cecelia and Vanessa (they're David's). He also has a granddaughter-in-law named Tricia (David's wife).
So what should "Old Man Tanner's" name be? Sampson, Samson, Obed, or something else? If you offer up suggestions, I'd be happy to see them! Just make sure the name suggestions are of Biblical origin.

I quite like "Obediah Tanner."
How old is he? Where is the story set? Is the character supposed to be a weird loner or the neighborhood grandfather?
I think Sam Tanner sounds like a kindly old man who works at the green grocer, where as I imagine Obed Tanner is the guy who lives in the dilapidated house at the end of the lane and never speaks to anyone.
Some other suggestions:
Jacob Tanner
Jeremiah Tanner
Barnabas Tanner
Hezekiah Tanner
Caleb Tanner
Eustace Tanner (not Biblical, but there is a Saint Eustace)
Lucius Tanner
Uriah Tanner

Sampson and Samson, and even Samuel, are okay but sound kind of silly with Tanner. Obed just sounds very strange unless he's from the backwoods or something.
Richard Tanner
Harold Tanner
Louis Tanner
John Tanner
Norman Tanner

Norman Tanner
I like Richard and Harold.
