Guilty Pleasure Names
Do you have any names that you like that you consider "guilty pleasures", meaning that it is generally disliked but you admit to liking it yourself? I do, and here they are.Ludwig: It may sound a little pretentious today, but I love the associations with Ludwig Von Beethoven and Ludwig Von Koopa from the Super Mario series.Sunny: An adjective name. I find this extremely cute, although I may just have this as a nickname for another name like Sunita.Any name from Undertale/Deltarune with the exception of Sans: C'mon, those are my favorite games. Of course I love the characters as well as their names.Rexanne: This is a weird one. I came across this just today, and I can't get it out of my head. It's so weird...but so good!! Why do I like this??With this having been said, do you have any names that you consider to be guilty pleasures of yours? I'll be looking forward to what you have to share!Happy naming!~MarioDM02P.S. I'm going to name my children after a grunge star and/or video game character, and no one can stop meh! >:3

You should move to Wales, Taliesin and Myfanwy are both very usable here! I've known people with both names.

My maths teacher's name was Alaric. He was really cool. One of the smartest people I've ever met. He wore outfits that made him look like a shiny vampire and apparently listened to My Chemical Romance. Also his nails were always a different colour. He liked classic sci-fi novels. I really loved him.

Sounds like someone I'd get along with!I really like the name, but don't know if I'd want to saddle a kid with it. Maybe for a middle name though.

PetrovaI used to love the book Ballet Shoes by Noel Streatfield, featuring adopted sisters Pauline, Petrova and Posy. Petrova had been adopted from Russia, and now that I'm older I know Petrova isn't a real name.I still love it.

Adora — absolutely after She-RaArtemis / Athena — I like Greek / Roman god names. At least the gods who weren’t *Terrible* like Zeus and Ares. I know some people think they’re p extra tho. Ianthe — still on the ancient and medieval mythology namesEzra — I’m sooo frustrated by this name. I Love the sound, but my main association with it is Ezra Pound, who was a fascist and a Nazi. And I feel like if I use it, that association stays close because I’m a poet. Madrigal — it sounds so cool, but it has such a specific meaning (more of a definition really, it’s a word name) and idk. It sounds like a fantasy name and it actually is in the Daughter of Smoke and Bone series. I loooove Simone and Judith. I think right now people think they’re pretty old fashioned. But obvi they’d be honoring Simone de Beauvoir and Judith Butler (and the Biblical Judith too)Winona —idk it sounds old fashioned but it makes me smile and think of Winona RyderEDIT: Almost forgot the Biggest guilty pleasure name of all!! Sappho !!!

I like Ezra too, but I feel like it's too popular at the moment - by the time I might be having kids, it'd probably be dated.Judith and Winona are both so cute and under-rated! I think Judith has a fresh, cute, up-beat feeling despite being old-fashioned, and Winona just sounds pretty and feminine. I love your associations. And of course, Sappho is amazing.

I love the sound of Chastity but I'm really not big on the meaning.

Avalon and Atlantis are really cool! The only name on your list that I couldn’t do at all would be Chastity. The sound is nice, the connotation/definition ruins it for me.

Raelynn - I like this name, but I know a number of my family and friends dislike it.

I like a lot of very fancy or elaborate names from other cultures that I'd never be able to use. Also, recently I started thinking Ermentrude was actually quite sweet. I'm not in love with it - I still don't think it deserves all the hate, though.Cassidy is a big guilty pleasure.

Big mood on the foreign names. But it’s worse to contribute to cultural appropriation. Ermentrude sounds very quaint and nostalgic. Is Cassidy a guilty pleasure name? I know a couple of them born in the mid 90s. I’m not the biggest fan of the name tho.

Yeah - maybe one day I'll marry someone from a culture with names I love and then I can use them without being problematic, lol.I always feel snobby when I say this but to me it has a slightly... "trashy" vibe? In general I can be a bit of a name snob and stay away from names I think sound trendy or modern, and Cassidy does to me. I like it because I like "Cass / Cassie" and I think it's sweeter and more interesting than Cassandra.

lol I love the way your mind works!Funny, bc I actually prefer Cassandra!
