[Opinions] Opinions on Fern?
Now that Ivy is getting very popular, here's a name that I've always liked: Fern. I remember watching Charlotte's Web at school in Kindergarten and loving the name Fern. When I was that age, I really wanted a daughter named Alice (my favorite name now as well.) Fern, Daisy, or Christina. The plant is also very peaceful and beautiful. It's a nice nature name, easy to spell, it's unique (love that), and it ages well. I love the name Ivy as well, but I think Fern is a wonderful alternative. Fern seems sort of like a hippie name, but I don't see a problem with that. Those names are usually unique. What are your opinions on Fern?I like the combos Alice Fern and Fern Alice. What would be some nice middle names for Fern?

I love Fern; I always have done, since I was a kid and knew a girl named Fern at school. It's high on my list, but if Hypothetical!Baby ever becomes real I don't know if it will make it past some of the names my wife likes better. If I don't use it for a baby, it will probably be a character name at some point.I prefer Alice Fern of your two options. Suggestions:Fern Elspeth
Fern Margaret
Fern Cecilia
Fern Amelia
Fern Olivia
Fern Jacinta
Fern Liora
Fern Kamala
Fern Sophia
Fern Sylvana
Fern Julia

I didn't like Fern in the Charlotte's Web movie because they made her such a helpless crybaby! I like the name though. I just wish the word fern sounded more like how ferns look, if that makes sense. I'd want to pair Fern with something lacy and delicate (like Alice) that sounds more like fern leaves look. Not all of these fit that description though:
Alice Fern
Cecily Fern
Fern Sophia
Fern Anastasia
Lillian Fern
Willa Fern
Cassia Fern
Fern Cressida
Fern Cornelia
Fern Odelia
Fern Miranda
Isabel Fern
Isobel Fern
Fern Isolde
Catherine Fern
Saoirse Fern
Fern Lucetta
Arrietty Fern
Kirrily Fern
Kiralee Fern
Fern Antonia
Fern Coraline
Bethan Fern
Annabel Fern
Fern Christabel
Charlotte Fern
Nessa Fern

I like it until I realised it kinda rhymes with 'sperm'.

But sperm has an "m" at the end, so it doesn't actually rhyme...not sure how you make that leap.If kids want to make fun of a name they will find a way. Even the most common names can be twisted, like Regina and Gabriel (Gay).

It's an internal rhyme, but I don't think most people would make the connection. Fern sounds more like fur than sperm.

Yeah, I agree with you. I actually have friends named Regina and Gabriel, both my age. Kids never called Regina "V*gina" or Gabriel "Gay" (though he is) in their entire life. I don't think people would do that with Fern either. My full name is teasing central...I would know, lol. Lagina and Asse are names that would definitely be teased.

Oh.Um...Uh...Ummmmm…Yikes. Welp, I don't know if people would give that association, I hope not at least.

No way. This poster has a very magnetized mind.

I love Fern's charming frumpiness - derived from the fact that the strongest vowel sound is, basically, a schwa. Yet it's not a forgettable name by any means. I really liked Fern as a little girl, but then I didn't think about it for a long time. Now it's in my Top 10! The plants are also really cool. :-)Fern needs a strong middle name if she's in the starring role. My combo right now is Fern Alexandra, but there's also:Fern Adelaide
Fern Alafair
Fern Ariadne
Fern Alexandretta
Fern Alexandria
Fern Alexandrina
Fern Caroline
Fern Christiana
Fern Cordelia
Fern Elizabeth
Fern Evangeline
Fern Lavinia
Fern Leona
Fern Morgana
Fern Olivia
Fern Penelope
Fern Roxana / Fern Roxane
Fern Wilhelmina
Fern Winifred

Alice Fern is good. Generally speaking, I prefer Fern as a nn for Fernanda.

I like Fern very much. Very gentle. There's a character on the animated series Arthur named Fern and I like her. Fern from Charlotte's Web was also a good character. My dad had a coworker named Fern. Fern Alice is nice, so is Alice Fern. I think Alice Fern flows better.I can't think of any combos, I'm going to toy around with some, I don't think these match well.Fern AmeliaFern MargotFern MarjorieFern AbigailFern AnnelieseFern AmandaSelah FernSybil FernMarjorie FernLydia Fern

Oh, I love Fern, it's one of my sleeper favourites. It's a quiet, odd little name - unusual but very gentle about it. I see it as a very intelligent name as well. I also love that Fern is also German for "far away" (or something like that), which is so poetic. I definitely get hippie vibes from Fern. I came up with the combo Fern Amanda a little while ago and thought that was adorable. Fern Francine also delights me. Fern Christina would be beautiful as well. Alice Fern is really sweet, and works better than Fern Alice, imo. And come to think of it, Charlotte Fern would be a charming combo... Fern Charlotte works too! But maybe that's a bit too "themey".

I like pairing Fern with middle names that were once very popular choices and are maybe a bit dated now, it seems to warm up the name so much:Fern Alexandra
Fern Barbara
Fern Jessica
Fern Sarah
Fern Samantha
Fern Jennifer
Fern Rebecca
Fern Melanie
Fern Martha
Fern Pamela
Fern Cecile
Fern Lucille
Fern Phyllis
